nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Brock, you really should have locked the thread after the first post in this thread. Turning into an all time classic Mauer bitchfest now. I thought the Catcher bit was the most asinine piece of Mauer criticism, but apparently now people want Joe Mauer to give money back to a multi billionaire owner, that he(Mauer) is 100% fairly and legally entitled to.Agreed, this is distracting from the main problem. Anthony Slama could fix this wretched bullpen if they'd just give him a chance.
glunn Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Moderator note -- if you do not realize that this thread is tongue in cheek then please do not post here.
howeda7 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Joe Mays is a decent LB in the NFL.The Twins should look into acquiring him for an 8th inning role. He can't be worse than Boyer.Expert analysis on "Mays" and "Meyers." Joe Mays hasn't pitched for the Twins in a decade, it's time to give it a rest. Still not sure who Meyers is.
Pius Jefferson Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 He'd be an idiot not to have a no trade clause.
sane Provisional Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I didn't expect this from Seth. Bravo! Now we don't have to worry about it being deleted because it is the truth. That ("If he cared about winning, he would take a pay cut and restructure his contract.").. was Seth's contribution to the ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!-worthy overused comments. I doubt that Seth actually subscribes to that stupid quote! But I guess the suckers are biting today.

I doubt that Seth actually subscribes to that stupid quote! But I guess the suckers are biting today. If Mauer would take a pay cut, he could sacrifice the future well-being of his own family to help the Twins sign future clones of Ricky Nolasco, Tsyui Nishioka, Jason Marquis, Joe Mays, Nick Blackburn, Matt Capps....I'm sure he is really tempted to finance more of THOSE disasters!
KGB Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Can you add "Blaming Joe Mauer for his contract" to the list?Joe Mauer had the hammer and used the hammer, it's hard to see him as blameless
spinowner Provisional Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Yes - am not sure everyone interpreted this thread in the spirit it was intended....This thread should really be named "Things that make me go AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!"
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 This thread should really be named "Things that make me go AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!"For some of us, that applies to most of the threads.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 30, 2015 Author Posted July 30, 2015 This thread should really be named "Things that make me go AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!"It was titled specifically to drive the point home about Mauer. It's a preventive measure to stop people from posting ridiculous things in other threads. Hard to miss the title of this post when you're browsing the forum.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 30, 2015 Author Posted July 30, 2015 That being said, he isn't going anywhere. I also think it's unreasonable to expect him to restructure his contract...that's just not how sports work. The baseball player's union would go straight into outrage mode and make everyone's lives miserable if Joe even tried to restructure his contract. There are more forces at work here than Joe Mauer and the Minnesota Twins. People need to keep that in mind.
dougkoebernick Provisional Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Of course not. It can't be done in MLB.Thanks - I thought that was probably a no-no in the MLB but knew you would know.

gil4 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Here's another one that I find ARGH!-worthy:We should trade (3 players with low value) to (certain team) for (good player). How about if we throw in Duensing too?
Loosey Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I don't understand why the Twins don't Trade Danny Santana, Oswaldo Arcia and Rickey Nolasco for Bryce Harper and Stephen Strausberg?
Jham Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 "Trevor May is our Ace, and the best pitcher on our staff." (based on peripherals), "But Ricky Nolasco is the worst pitcher and contract and we should pay teams to take him in a trade" (despite similar peripherals to May). The Twins need to clear out [proven player] in order to make room for [prospect(s)] who should just be handed the position regardless of team success, individual success, or entitlement because we "need to see what we have" after all, we're not REALLY going to contend until [current year plus 2-3 years]."
gil4 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Shirley there must be more that this!!You could compile a pretty good list just by finding the outrageous thread starters from VodkaDave/DaveW/MarkDerosa. There is usually some pretty good discussion that follows as people talk him down off the ledge (or climb out there with him) (or push him off). Edit: And I almost forgot, stop calling me Shirley!
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 You'd think we could find a decent shortstop in Asia somewhere. We still have scouts there, right?

Doubles Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 If he cared about winning, he would take a pay cut and restructure his contract... I wish Joe would spike a helmet, break a bat over his knee, or even drop an audible "Gosh darnit!" after grounding out 4-3 or hitting into another double-play. Remember when Carl Pavano went mental on a Gatorade machine in the dugout a coupla years ago? Now THAT showed some fire. I wish Joe cared about his craft as much as Pavano clearly did.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Confusing doing something stupid with caring.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 If he cared about winning, he would take a pay cut and restructure his contract... If the Twins care about winning they will need to release him before his contract expires. The Twins are getting bottom third production from 1B this year with 0.4 WAR and an OPS of 725. It will not be hard to find a regular 1B that provides more bat. The bench is too small to carry a pinch hitter without position flexibility.
