Joe Mauer has a no-trade clause and will never play catcher again.

Confused.

You don't want to read "Joe Mauer has a no-trade clause", or "The Twins should trade Joe Mauer"?

I think he actually falls under the 10-5 rule now. Ten year veteran, last five years with the same team. He can veto any trade. The actual no trade clause was only for the first couple of years of this contract which covered the years between his signing and his qualifying for the 10-5 rule. There were comments about that during the press conference. Either way he can veto any trade now.

No trade clause doesn't mean he can't be traded, just that he has to approve his trade. That being said, he isn't going anywhere. I also think it's unreasonable to expect him to restructure his contract...that's just not how sports work

This is a new feature on TD. It's called "If I read those statements one more time, I'm going to AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!"

Discuss.

Here's another one that I find ARGH!-worthy:

We should trade (3 players with low value) to (certain team) for (good player).

Plouffe also can't play SS

Neither is Dozier. And Rosario isn't playing IF.

Personally, I really enjoy the roster ideas that are little more than "look to the player on your right and take his place on the field".

It's a nonsensical version of musical chairs, MLB style.

Expert analysis on "Mays" and "Meyers." Joe Mays hasn't pitched for the Twins in a decade, it's time to give it a rest. Still not sure who Meyers is.

I know that Joe has a no trade and he will never play catcher again. I would just like him to be treated like all of the other overpaid players in pro sports. He is being paid for a job he can no longer do (a great hitting catcher). He still gets waaay to much respect and protection from broadcasters and management. He is not the face of the team. Chances are we could get a better player from our minor league system for the cost of a plane ticket.

I think it would be stupid for him to play catcher again, but it needs to be spoken by management that Joe's contract is stupid and he is blocking the future with his weak groundouts.

I am sick of hearing people say " how dare you suggest joe risk his health playing catcher, it's only a game"

Joe hoodwinked everyone and is one of the most overpaid players in pro sports. He gets a massive paycheck for below average production. He is the one we should be saying " how dare you" too.

Just my opinion.

His money is not a big deal unless they use it as an excuse. The Twins value jumped from 580m to 880m in the last year because of a new TV

deal. A sport money guy said on TV a few weeks ago every MLB team can afford a 120m payroll before they sell a ticket. Joe's contract is peanuts compared to all the money the teams are making now.

If he cared about winning, he would take a pay cut and restructure his contract...

If he cared about winning, he would have demanded a trade to a team that wins.

Brock, you really should have locked the thread after the first post in this thread. Turning into an all time classic Mauer bitchfest now. I thought the Catcher bit was the most asinine piece of Mauer criticism, but apparently now people want Joe Mauer to give money back to a multi billionaire owner, that he(Mauer) is 100% fairly and legally entitled to.

I didn't expect this from Seth. Bravo! Now we don't have to worry about it being deleted because it is the truth.

If his health was his major concern he could just do himself a favor (and everyone else) and retire. No more feeling guilty about the money and be a father to your girls.

Yes - am not sure everyone interpreted this thread in the spirit it was intended....

When did he say he felt guilty about the money?

Why should he be?
