Report: Twins to Re-sign Reliever Sergio Romo

That's a good move.  A little something to give us hope.

Like this kinda guy.  Passionate, no ego, fits nicely.  The Twins may not sign the big names, but they do have something special in "how they go about their business" as Gardy always said.

So at the moment, the Twins are pretty much the same team as last year except for holes at 1B and two spots in the rotation (which is actually 3 spots in the rotation for the first 40 games). So far this has been one of the most disappointing off-seasons I can remember. I had hopes of the team taking a big step forward, while the reality is looking more and more like it will be a small step backwards.

Find some starting pitching.

I like it. Just not as our 2nd biggest move of the off-season.

I agree it's not what we're looking for when we saw the breaking news notifications this afternoon. I like Romo. It's a solid signing, but there's no WOW factor. Who's next, Ervin Santana? The only free agents we've signed are a backup catcher and a couple of guys who were with us last year. Yawn city.

I think we all know Ryu's not coming here, and Donaldson has all but said "no thanks" to the idea of playing for MN. But, the front office guys have done a good job in the past and we have to just trust they've got something up their sleeve. Sure hope they do, for this team's sake!

I'm glad they re-signed him. Seems like he is able to get important outs, albeit he is not a 9th inning guy, more like a late 7th or early 8th inning dude.

Not that this is any better, but it's the 3rd. Odorizzi accepts QA realistically would be the #1.

We are now leading the majors in stabilizing moves....Yeah!

Fun guy to have on the squad. Is clutch and sets a calm example.

I'm guessing he's a pretty guy to have in the bullpen that could teach the young guys a thing or two. I still would have liked to see them add one better bullpen piece as well though.

Nice move, though I would like another lefty added to the bullpen. Still a lot of work left to do, but getting Pineda and Romo back is good news to me.

I'd like to see Ryan Buchter be that signing.

So far this offseason has been the definition of insanity.  The Twins have just been re-signing the same people who went 3 and out (again) in the postseason and apparently are expecting different results...

Gotta overpay to get guys to want to play in Minneapolis.

Still like a SP conversion for the role.

They don't have enough starts around right to fill the rotation much less convert one to the 'pen.

My guess is that our next starter will come via trade. The positive news about the reacquisitions of Odo, Pineda and Romo is that when we do acquire players, they love the clubhouse atmosphere, the coaching staff and front office and the metropolitan area (so much so that many move here when their career is over). These should be great tools for recruitment of free agents.

I could probably give you thousands of examples of anecdotal evidence of a team losing a game or series and then putting out the same team the next time and having different results.     Twins scored 7 runs in 3 games  in the playoffs so better get a whole different lineup because if you don't they will only score 7 runs next year?   They had bases loaded and no outs and didn't score so next year they won't get a big hit either?   The Nationals were a two out 3 run single from being eliminated in the wild card game.   If they had I am sure the fans would have said " We haven't advanced  past the first round of the playoffs in 49 years.   This team just wasn't capable of doing any better".   But because they did have that big play we know better.     Its baseball.   With the same team guys will improve or get worse.  The only guy I really wanted in free agency is Ryu.   My biggest fear, and it was a distinct possibility is that we would also lose Pineda and Odorizzi.   91 Twins didn't go  from worst to first by signing an aging pitcher coming off two mediocre years and an untested rookie at 2nd base.   They went from worst to first because those guys had a great year and everyone that played on the last place team simply played better.    I'll hang my hat on a team that won over a 100 games last year.   They might be better, they might be worse but they are unlikely to be the same.
