I take that back. This one shocked me. The only thing things getting rid of Correa benefits is Correa and the Twins ability to payoff their debt and make the sale easier. It doesn't make the team better.

True, but getting rid of good players rarely makes a team that lacks talent, better. Correa may have been overpaid, but he was still one of the better players on the roster. The only benefit to the Twins and the fans was that hopefully saving ownership money will help them sell the franchise.

DJL44 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 So, the Twins were effectively going to eat $12M for Carlos to pay for a 4th place team this year and another $32M to play for a non-contender next season as well. They only ate $33M, that's actually a really good deal for the Twins. The Astros valued him like a $25M/season player and he's been playing like a $10M/season player. Sure, the players are part of that, maybe mostly. But Rocco has to be held responsible. This fire sake could have been averted if there were enough guts to fire Rocco earlier in the season. In fact, they could’ve fired Rocco yesterday, kept Correa and some or most of the others, and the franchise would have been better off. It’s pretty clear Correa wanted out at this point. The writing is on the wall. Rocco needs to be shown the door immediately. The rebuild starts tomorrow. And that rebuild cannot be led by Rocco. I think with all due respect, that your point of view is a little bit simplistic. When there is uncertainty from the top, in any organization, not only in sports, everybody start to act accordingly, from Falvey to the manager to the players. Nobody really knows what is the plan. And almost everybody underperforms. Finally, Falvey must have said, well, you wanna save money?, save money and we are done with it. But this is not gonna be fixed until they sell the team. I love those players, but a manager is really only as good as the tools he's given to work with. Development should be just about done by the time a player reaches the bigs. Danchat and Doctor Wu 2

Like alwaysn The Twins are a 4th place team. Paying Carlos Correa a bunch of money to play for a 4th place team has no value. The Twins were going to pay him $44M before they had a chance to be relevant again in 2027 (a completely sunk cost) and who knows if Correa will still be playable in 2027. The Astros were basically the only team who wanted him and they overpaid despite having leverage. It's actually amazing the Twins pulled this one off. OBX 3 6 28 29 34 and glunn 2

Correa had a .900 OPS as recently as last last season. I wouldn't write him off just yet. And it's not like the Twins are going to reinvest the money. Now they're paying him to play for Houston. Wonderful.

Again...it makes sense if you are a franchise that only wants to save money and does not care about competing. The Twins lack talent...and trading one of your 5 best players does not give you a better chance to compete in the foreseeable future. They aren't going to sign FAs as talented as Correa. They didn't get back prospects that are going to be better than Correa. They just saved money to put in their own pockets. Ideally, yes, the Twins would take this savings and invest it into a variety of parts that equal more than the collective Correa whole. The problem is that they aren't going to do that.

glunn Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2025 Posted August 1, 2025 CBS Sports says: "You could easily argue that Carlos Correa is no longer an impact player at this point. He is having the worst season of is career, after all. The Astros did bring back their former franchise savior though, essentially taking him on as a salary dump in a trade with the Twins, who went scorched earth on the roster. Minnesota is heavily subsidizing Correa, eating $33 million of the $104 million remaining on his contract, but still, Houston is taking a lot of money and a lot of years for a player who appears to be in decline. This is risky, for sure." OBX 3 6 28 29 34 and DJL44 2
