  1. When I leave Carolina for Bemidji on Thursday where my Olson family have been since they homesteaded there after coming over from Oslo, they will talk of going down to "The Cities" for a Twins or Vikes game. That's the term used there 95% of the time if not more. And of course that's why they're called The Twins. And I love the classic uniforms which matches my Killebrew jersey! BTW, if you get a chance to see a game in Nationals park you'll see Killebrew's name up in the Ring of Honor right beside Walter Johnson's. I was confused walking in when so many people commented on my awesome jersey but then I saw why. Go Twins! Take in a game in The Cities!
  2. Hey Cody, thanks for the breakdown and discussion points. Excellent article and the sample probabilities are interesting to consider as well. FYI, the added %'s for Cholowsky should be 26% (21 + 5) rather than 29%. Looking forward to any updates as we get closer!
  3. I'm just repeating what I heard on MLB radio today when the discussion turned to Rocco being let go (and some research I just did). I believe it was either CJ Nitkowski or Ryan Spilborghs who said that Rocco had fewer off-field coaches at his disposal than most MLB teams and that some of these coaches/assistants are specifically assigned to the development of players' hitting, pitching, baserunning, strength and conditioning, etc. All teams are restricted to the traditional on-field coaches (hitting instructor, etc) but apparently there is no limit on off-field coaches and assistants other than organization resources which of course has always been a challenge for the Twins and which is now under further pressure.
  4. I see an even higher level of joy in playing together with Lee and Keaschall. They are good for each other and challenge each other to be better. Luke is already making Brooks a better hitter and they both have the fielding instincts that are on the same page. I read here comments about Lee moving to a utility role but I would like to see these two play together at SS and 2B and watch them grow into the leaders of this team. That joy and desire to win is priceless.
  5. I really enjoyed watching Bader and Buck playing together. Buck gave the respect right back to Bader for defense, contributions on offense, and the fire that Bader brought to the dugout/clubhouse. Buck was having fun too with his protege and wingman. I'd sign Bader again if not for the tight wallet and outfielders on the way.
  6. The so very important factor beyond their projectable skills is the prospect's mental makeup. That includes determination, confidence, desire, and the ability and willingness to learn and overcome failure and adversity. The interview with Culpepper last year showed him exuding confidence and a steely determination which has been instrumental in his progress. The interview with Festa's parents showed their awe in witnessing his determination. I hope these aren't random accidents and that the Twins scouts and decision makers are doing their homework on this so very important factor in our draft picks. Granted, many have exhibited this already to get this far but how strong is it?
  7. I'll be wearing my Puckett pinstripes to the Twins series in Baltimore 3 weeks from now. Probably pack the Killer #3 cream jersey and the Blyleven pinstripes as well to mix it up. Enjoy Atlanta, go Twins!
  8. I would ask for patience, coaching, building confidence during the offseason and let's see how they respond.
  9. Another fun player to watch was Bert and his 12 to 6 curveball that made hitters look silly. Long live Captain Hook.
  10. Whoops, the actual video is now gone and only a retelling of what happened. Not sure why because I saw the actual footage on YouTube maybe a year ago with snippets that showed every stolen base including 2 steals of home and I think there were 2 double steals, maybe just 1.
  11. Tovar was so much fun to watch as well as Oliva and Killebrew and Carew. One of my favorite videos to watch is Tovar and Carew stealing 5 bases off of Lolich and Freehan in the same inning. And those guys were good. Open up a new tab and check it out in YouTube.
  12. Adrenaline can sometimes push these incredible athletes past their bodies' capabilities resulting in injury. It is a learning process that will hopefully protect them and preserve the talent we love to watch before their short time ends. Good luck Royce and we'll look forward to watching your breathtaking talent again.
  13. I must have missed it as I read through--did anybody suggest the MLB streaming package? I've had that for at least 5 years. I think it's $139/year (it automatically charges and updates now) and it is fabulous covering all teams with usually the home and away tv broadcasts. Ooohhh, maybe the Twins' games are blacked out for you guys like the Orioles and Nationals are for me (I live in Virginia) although I did watch the O's and Nat's for a free trial week on Fubo.
  14. Simeon has showed some impressive growth just when we needed another starter to step forward. Julien and Kiriloff have been struggling but it's tough to get better against Castillo. As for Carlos, he looks like a different player compared to last year. The offense is clutch and sorely needed with Lewis and Buxton out while the defense and leadership is a real treat to watch every game. Which shortstops in Twins history compare? I didn't see Zoilo's 1965 season.
  15. Bobby Darwin! My cousin and I were huge Bobby D fans in the early 70s. I just looked him up on Baseball Reference and was surprised to see that he led the AL in K's 3 years in a row. Ha ha seems we forgave him those. Thanks for the memories!
