Just saw a report from Dan Hayes, that Buxton is scheduled to resume his rehab assignment with the Saints today. He's going to be the DH.

Gotta start somewhere. Mildly encouraging. Him DHing v. LH bat & being a PH is worthwhile. Needs to be effective. Easily fits on roster if we carry 15 bats in WC round. Depending upon his health, along with CC & Lewis, he may stick in 2nd round. If we get to AL Championship he’ll have to have contributed or he’ll be dropped as we will go to at least 12 pitchers in a 7 game series……..no deadwood at this point.

He could be a nice surprise but he’s not needed for us to succeed - it’s not Byron or else.

I agree, this is encouraging.  The Twins will most likely carry 15 bats with a couple of SP's moving to the bullpen and the 2 least effective reliver's not making the roster.  Competition for those final couple of bullpen spots will be intense now that Varland and Funderburk have grabbed spots and Brock Stewart and Paddock are ramping up.

The Twins need to make sure they have plenty of speed on the bench for late game situations.  If Buxton is healthy enough to DH, he would also be healthy enough to pinch run if need be.  Having guys like Castro, Taylor and Stevenson won't hurt at all given the way post season games are managed differently than a typical regular season game.  Plus, there's always the chance Buxton clobbers a 3-run homer.

Q: Is Luplow an option to bring back for October if Buxton cannot contribute. His .250 Average & .795 OPS is something that we should consider from a depth standpoint. Carrying 15 bats - we’ll probably have teams target lefties against us to neutralize our LH hitters - Luplow may be a valuable option? I’d rather have his RH bat v. Stevenson from the left side.

I understand the frustration.  But this is good news.   Hopefully, Buxton can be a contributor in the field in the playoffs.  Now, DH him and work on his defense in practice.

Buck is batting 2nd   Gallo 3rd  and Brooks Lee 4th,  Popcorns Popping !!!!!

Against 28 year-old ex-Twins farmhand Bryan Sammons who came into the game sporting a 5.21 ERA.  Oh my OMG.

It is clear the man does not have his legs under him. He cannot explode off the back foot.

0-3 grounded into FC and trotted gingerly into the out at first.

That Saint's gun has Bechtold hitting 99, lol

Edit: Checked Statcast and Bechtold's fastball was 97-98 topping out at 98.8.

Yes he can be added to the playoff roster.

Sorry... not good news.... or news at all related to the potential post season success of the 2023 Twins.

You are still in the denial stage and that is OK.... I'll save a chair for you on the stage of acceptance for whenever you get here!

Is Buxton rehabbing in St. Paul because we are worried about whether or not the Twins still may not clinch the division and the games here at Target Field this weekend are too important? Because Buxton is going to DH in a playoff series? Because we are finally admitting that the whole attitude of “doesn’t have to face live pitching in spring training”, was a mistake, and live game action actually has value? Sorry if this comes off a little sour. 🙂

At this point, I am half hoping and half expecting them to write Buxton into center field and third in the order for Game 1. And honestly, why not?

Good news is Joey Gallo is also rehabbing in that game and back in mid-season form!

Just posed this question in the other Buxton thread before seeing this one… I’m curious to know if the goal is still the same and we’re going to ramp him up to play OF? Is he coming back solely to try and make the playoff roster as a bench bat?

Hopefully more clarity to come from the beat writers…
