Lots of managers like to get playing time for a large part of their rosters in the first couple games. The bullpen's fresh so no harm in getting an inning or so for 4 relievers.

Looks like he lost out.  Baldelli said he was making some changes to bullpen utilization based on an idea he got from Star Trek.  Not sure how it works but there was some unusual activity in the pen between innings...
