Huh, MLBTR lists 22 position players (and DH) left as free agents. Among them are Gary Sanchez and Miguel Sano who are two of the youngest free agents, and Andrelton Simmons, They list seven starting pitchers left, among them are Chris Archer, Dylan Bundy and Michael Pineda. Joe Smith and Hansel Robles are the former relievers. That seems like an awful lot of veteran players from the Twins the last two years that no other team wants. Five from last year's opening day roster, four of which were free agents.

Sergio Romo gets a pass, he was three years ago.

Sergio signed w/ San Fran, pitched to 3 batters in the final ST game (in SF) and was pulled - to a standing ovation - by Buster Posey.  All done to allow him to retire as a Giant.

Nice send off for quite a fun and unique dude!  Wish him well!

Looks like Jake Cave is the Phillies starting left fielder.

I noticed that in the box score too, Shocking. He almost had a homer but the center fielder from Texas made a good catch. And in the same game our old pal Robbie Grossman homered.

Wow, hell of a spring training stat line for Cave too. Is he holding that job until Bryce Harper comes back and the Phillies have to decide between Harper and Schwarber in LF? That's like not until June. He'll probably at least get the heavy end of a platoon as it looks like the Phillies only have 5 OF on their roster and Castellanos and Schwarber probably shouldn't be outfielders. Crazy to think Jake Cave, at the age of 30, might have a shot at a 'breakout' season, on a fairly loaded roster for the reigning world champs.

Chargois is now with the Marlins and putting up good numbers in spring training games.

Got two big outs (though in a losing cause) opening day. Fastball was clocking 97...actually a little down from what I remember with the Twins. Command was the challenge when we had him.

Couldnt help but notice that the Guardians acquired 6'5" lefthanded SP Steve Hajjar from the Reds earlier in the week.

Now that Cleveland has him, he'll be great. 😬

Pulled by Spenser Pence, not Posey. Just for the archives as I tune into the Mets'Marlins audio,

Yeah it's funny how things work out sometimes.  I mean Cave never really seemed like he was a full time player with the Twins, so I'm thinking if he makes a roster that it would be as a backup on some last place team that doesn't have a ton of talent.  But here he is on a legit team with world series aspirations.  I wish him all the luck as he seemed like a good guy, hopefully he has a breakout year and we can all sit around and think dang what if we still had him,. 🤔😀

Jake is starting in RF for the Phils this afternoon (on Fox broadcast).

I remember the first time I saw him. Sprinted to his position and off-the-field as well. Last game I saw him? Sprinted both ways still. Effort counts when talent is suspect. Reminds me of what my basketball coach whispered to me more than once.

That was Hunter Pence, the ex-Giants outfielder, that came out to pull him.

Jake Cave is an A+ in the effort category. The problem is that he is hitting .000 and hasn't hit MLB pitching great for years. Most people are rooting for him but most don't think he stays on the major league roster long.

Guys who played in 2022 not on any rosters: Gary Sanchez, Miguel Sano, Tyler CLippard, Brandon Kintzler, Tomas Telis, Beau Burrows, J.T. Riddle, Luke Farrell, Andrelton Simmons, (Jason Castro and Kurt Suzuki retired, I believe). Kyle Barraclough, Wilson Ramos, Andrew Albers (played in WBC). Ralph Gazza Jr. Hansel Robles, Danny Santana, Nick Vincent, Michael Pineda. Chris Archer, Cody Stashak, Joe Smith, Tyler Thornbuerg, Tim Beckham.

Sanchez is on a minor league deal

I'm actually rooting for Cave to succeed in Philly. The fact that he made the opening roster is pretty impressive, although you have to factor in the Philly injuries too. But hey, hope he stays on the team.

Mitch Garver caught for Texas on Saturday, went 2-4, 2 HR, 6 RBIs. DH'd on Sunday, 1-3. Hope he has a good year...most games.

Particularly when they play the Astros.

Josh Donaldson pulled from game due to "hamstring tightness." Rortvedt has been hurt most of two years now so the Yankees didn't get a whole lot from that trade and spent a lot of money doing it.
