    Wallner proving he's nowhere near a ML hitter gets him an "honorable mention"? Well, there is no possible way to spin that into a positive.

    It would be nice to have an ACTUAL prospect (so, NOT Wallner or our recent traumatic experiment at 2B that was so bad I can't/won't recall his lazy SEC arse's name!) roll into Minneapolis and able to be evaluated for a month or two. I know it's a lot to ask, but can we SOMEHOW get the new Camaro home, and let us pop the hood to see if its a puny 6 under the hood or a tuned V8 before slamming it into the garage and dinging it all to heck?!?!

    Let's see... This was a team, if you can believe TD, were expected to be lucky to only lose 100 games. And that was before Lopez was lost. To say these guys, playing sub .500 ball all season somehow "collapsed" to a ~90 loss team shows a lot more about the writers of these articles than about the actual product on the field.

    I find it interesting that the only age old adage thatTwinsDaily writers seem too believe in is that a move to the pen is somehow going to unlock something extra in a "failed starter". 1) The Twins have specialized for almost a decade on taking average fastballs (velocity only!!!!) and finding increased (often significant) velocity. It is the reason no one compares Zebby to Radke despite similar ability to fill the strike zone, and similar profiles when Zebby signed. But move him to the pen and unlock even more? Doubtful, if not just plain unlikely. 2) He hasn't got a peg to hang his hat on. None of his pitches are very good. Individuality. He does well mixing pitches, location and sequence. Sometimes he looks like he'll be lucky to get through the lineup once, but likely as not he's out there yet in the 5th or 6th. As a reliever that day is now a 100% failure for him and the team. Every time. Time will tell if he is a productive, back end starter. My 50 plus years of studying this game says that the odds of that are much better than him being anything beyond a AAA bullpen guy. [Gr8 timing as always TD!!!! Take the Twins best starter for the last month or two and move him to the bp NOW!!!!! ]

    Maybe, you put together a team that doesn't need 1/3rd to half the roster "hot" to play winning baseball. Most teams have players on the roster who can manage that!

    My day is almost assuredly shot because of you! The rest of today (at least!) will be spent optimizing any an all strip club/MLB draft combinations to get the best results... thanks!

    That "fight" is the biggest and most important change Sheldon has brought about. Not sure what the specifics are, but it is a DRAMATIC change from the previous two seasons in particular. As a TwinsTV subscriber, I approve. If only because I get more bang for the buck. No more youtube after the 3rd inning because "if the Twins didn't start a game hot, they basically never started". Not every deficit will be overcome. But, it's better when they at least try to adjust and overcome than surrender without trying at all. And I saw a LOT of no-effort (and somehow even less adjustment!!!) baseball over the last two seasons.

    I remember a stretch of baseball when the holders of the hardest thrown ball in history (statcast era) were, in order 1) Buxton, who was passed by 2)Hicks (w/ Yankees), who was then passed by 3) Sano (!) at 3B. The universe then righted itself and 4) Buxton retook the title.

    Funner and competitiver. Helluva difference from last year.

    Can we go the rest of the season without the inanity of saying the bullpen is a strength??? It isn't. It is theoretically better than at the beginning of the season. Probably. 100% turnover wouldn't bother me one bit. Not the way I'd prefer, but there is nothing to build on. No solid foundation. You can build your house on a solid foundation, or not. It might function for a month or two without that foundation, but it will let you down when you truly need it!

    (If I may use the royal) We signed a guy to a muliyear contract who had never played a full season. There was no secret about that. We got a bit of utterly spectacular play as a two-way player that we expect from our CFs. We got even more time of good/great defense and acceptable bat. And a bit of playing time that was nothing but time! And we got a lot of IL time where his personality and work ethic were his only contribution. About what should have been expected when the final "t" in Buxton was crossed and "i" in Twins was dotted.

    You make the qualifying offer, no question. 1) He accepts and we have a starting catcher next season. Or, he can be traded. And then we need a catcher, at least short-term. 2) He rejects the QO and we get a prospect, just one a development step or two behind the prospect forgone at this years deadline. And we need a stop-gap catcher, at least, until the catching talent makes it to Minneapolis. Even if the QO changes significantly in structure during negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement, it will be grandfathered in over at least one season to allow a degree of continuity from the present agreement to the next.

    I said before, he is way too athletic to be such a bad defensive "finisher". Looks great getting into the general area to make plays. He then instantly looks like he just woke up for the 1st time ever on a baseball diamond!!! BOOM, everything goes completely to ...pot. (needed a non-obscenity, none came to mind) He is way too good of an athlete to be so regularly bad in the field.

    Nolan Ryan would recommend pickle brine for blister management. If you think that sounds bad, remember that his remedy was a replacement for "pi$$ on it" (literally).

    The bullpen should be better, but that isn't much of a bar to clear! Do like the additions, but love that there wasn't some insane bidding war for what they acquired. One "top" prospect going out, and a starter and 2 BP arms coming in isn't too bad.

    That is how ya' get the best record in baseball!

    He needs some consistency. His highs are otherworldly, but rare. His lows are bafflingly bad and all too common. I have some hope left that he can play at a star level, but six month hiatuses in any sort of productive play makes it hard.

    I've seen very few players look so athletic getting near to a ball in play, and so unathlethic when he's there!

    150 IP as a career high, but will take front-of-the-rotation package to get him. HUGE injury risk based on his history. Intriguing, but not worth it. And a moot point now, anyway!
