    How to fix baseball... Have millionaires claim they are underpaid and fight the billionaires (who wrote the checks that made said millionaires to a man) crying poor. P!ss off the remaining fans (of whom I'm among the youngest and can collect Social Security), ignore the generations following me who see baseball as something from another era. And no games for the kids of today to become the fans of tomorrow. How could this possibly go wrong???

    Addition by subtraction. Remarkable what will happen when you aren't regularly playing the worst regular in baseball and another at the very bottom for his position... And the bullpen goes from barrel scraping to... well, lets call them a barrel for now! Go barrels!

    Step #1 for Wallner is to show he is not the worst player in baseball... He has nothing to build upon right now. Tear down and complete rebuild.

    When most of your bullpen should be riding a bus somewhere, does it really matter? Prefer to stick it out when the 6+ERA reliever can't find the strike zone's zip code? (Again...) Or is it next man in before the game is utterly out of hand? If you're trying to win the answer is obvious. Want more defined roles? I see a collection that should be doing mop-up work to hopefully save thier individual careers. At best. Anyone see something else?

    Outman: everything you want in a ballplayer but the bat. Unfortunately for him, baseball uses said bat regularly. Unfortunately for the Twins and their fans, he regularly uses his bat. Anything above the Mendoza line would likely give him a surprisingly long (measured in months/years vs. days/months) ML career with his good D, very good speed and seemingly inoffensive demeanor in the clubhouse (he does seem to have fans and friends in the dugout). A pretty low bar. And it is a bar that he bangs into head-first every year since his rookie season. Where have you gone Bush and Lombardozi (sp?)? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you!

    And people think I'm hard on Minnesota's favorite son... But,!,!,! Someone has quietly pulled Wall-e aside to explain he is no longer allowed to challenge, right? RIGHT?? RIGHT???

    It is nice to look today's (whatever day) starting pitching and not know that opposing starter doesn't have a one in three or four shot at having his best start of the season against Minny. Good starter or bad (especially the bad), they likely left the game with a season high in Ks and innings because the Twins made (seemingly) no effort, and surely no adjustments. Regularly. 12 Ks and 7 innings with 2 hits. 10 Ks in 5 with a single hit (who was thrown out trying to stretch out a double) by someone whose major league career lasted another week. It was a problem. With the lineup that day. With the manager refusing to peep out from behind his spreadsheet to see how his ball team was playing. A front office who who put together a roster that was laughably poorly constructed. Utter system failure! It was why the Twins had such a white-trash methhead of a garage sale late last summer. ("Brand new microwave, still in the box! What'll'ya give me? No, not stolen. It was a wedding present, don't tell my wife!" kinda crap)

    If I remember correctly, yes,it was Ted Williams #1, Carew #2 and somebody named Ruth #3 (he had some pretty wild numbers!). What was interesting to me was the old guys (say pre-1920), "Power" guys who got to double digit home runs with batting averages around .400 and Pucket-esque double and triple numbers. And did it for years. Lots of names for fans of the true old timers.

    I'm too young to have seen "prime" Oliva (born 1970). I do remember my 1st game at the Met, and my mom explaining that his story was among the saddest in baseball, due to the devastating results of his injuries. Ever the optimist Oliva would have disagreed, but she had a point.
