  1. Glad to see someone seize the opportunity! In 50 years as a Twins fan, I've seen far too many guys "just not lose a spot" in spring training, and spend the season showing they sure as he... didn't earn it, let alone deserve to keep it! Congratulations Mick Abel!!! Now go out there and prove you belong.
  2. Also gone is Gio Urshella. Did an acceptable job in his last pass through the Cities, but I don't think anyone saw him as anything more than a temp (at best) this time.
  3. Better hope he is! Otherwise he's a 5+ERA, low inning repeat from last year.. I'm hoping for crafty, 'cuz crappy is only two letters away.
  4. Package him with Wallner and Larnach, and we get... disappointment. Six of one (trade), half dozen of the other (keep em).
  5. Not a shortstop, but a guy named Torii something-or-another had a big appetite for low *out of the zone* sliders. Caused him indigestion for 20 or so ML seasons...
  6. Need an "agree" button, because I don't "like" anything other than hoping he improves. One of those sad but true songs...
  7. When almost no one can defend thier position proficiently, this appears as "plan B". Plan B, better known as the wrong way...
  8. I've never had even "sexy dreams" reach this level of fantasy...
  9. A real possibility that his success boiled down to being a very tall/long linbed, resulting in a nearly unique experience for batters facing him. Face him a few times and it's no longer unique, but a guy who throws a 90 mph fastball. Hope it is not the case, but...
  10. Kirilloff gained zero at bats or hits from his prospect status. The status that "everyone" agreed with. Sorry you need a step by babystep explanation to follow what is apretty obvious statement. He obviously played for the Twins. He obviously got at bats and hits. His elite prospect status gained him nothing statistically. Understand now?
  11. Nope... We just got rid of an former Cy Young winner signed at a "bargain" price. Two seasons (while being paid for 3) basically clogging up the back end of the rotation (with all that vaunted pipeline talent!) with results that could have been replaced with ~3 AAA disposable free agents at 20% of the cost (damned cheap Pohlads!). This injury and resulting surgery likely ends his productive career as a front of the rotation arm as a Twin. That is a shame. With his diminishing returns statistically before the TJ, I just can't see a reason to do it. Almost no chance he's takes a pay cut to extend with this gang of misfit toys. And if he does, it is confirmation that we are in for another Paddack "buy 3 get 2" bargains. It's not like the Twins have a stellar record of rehabbing mature pitchers to inspire much hope for that. $10m isn't exactly chicken feed when constructing a Twins roster. And he'll never be pitching at that price anyway! This isn't just a no, but a hard no.
  12. 10 fingers and 5 toes... MUTANT ALERT!!! And "everyone but you" isn't even worth a thought! "Everyone" knew Kirilloff was a lock to hit in the majors. Good for exactly zero at bats/hits. A "prospect" going into his 4th professional season without a full season in total falls into the "project" bucket. A very interesting project to be sure.
  13. Just call him Mr. Production!!! Better yet, build a time machine and forget to give him an arbitration number.
  14. If the Twins' 10th best prospect has a pro resume of 1) injury, no season 2) great "stuff" and pisspoor results and 3) season innings total that can be counted on your fingers and one foot, we aren't looking at a lost season for them, we're looking at years of floundering. An interesting player, but some results are needed. Wish him the best of luck and hope that a matured body holds up better than the growing one has.
  15. How can anyone expect anything else from him??? (Hope is not the same as expecting) He's shown no willingness to change anything about his across the board bad play. Shorten that slower than Luis Tiant in the stretch windup of his? NEVER!!! Work on making contact more than "hard contact" (hint - swing and miss is ALWAYS zero contact, and shocker, no power)??? NEVER!!! No adjustments = bad baseball
  16. Hrbek and Brunanski both hit double figures in SB (too lazy to look it up, but...) without elite speed. Hrbie claimed later in his career that those were basically gimmies that anyone paying attention should be able to get over a season. False modesty aside, he had a point.
  17. Yes, unless I'm terribly mistaken. Iowa is good, but I am still in Twins territory as far as tv broadcasts are concerned (i.e. the blackout rules). If the fine print is the same as last year, AppleTv (whatever it's actual name is) ESPN & Fox national broadcasts are not available on twinstv, but since this is the Twins, those games are few and far between. Otherwise, you should get about 5 and half games (+) per week for your hundred dollar bill. Not sure if a more expensive MLB.TV package would get you some or all of those blackout games. Hope this helps...
  18. Hope springs eternal during Spring Training!!! Let's hope that they can make it through today's 7 innings with a little of that remaining. PLAY BALL!!
  19. I mean they already have Mr.20 HRs (and absolutely nothing else) penciled in to RF... Another player like that and we can start making World Series plans!
  20. Never send the wife a Valentines Day card with a man wearing an Amish beard. Even if it an actual Amish. Just trust me on this one...
  21. Excepting the first sentence, everyone listed in paragraph two wouldn't/won't get you more than a bag of batting practice balls. Collectively. A bunch of poor pinch hitters is worth less than one. We've got a bunch of those. I assume the Astros want competent lefty bats. The Twins have none. But, I'd love to be proven wrong. Anything is possible. Heck, Failvey actually traded Julien!
