Trade Arraez?

Do I want to?  Absolutely not.  But it appears the Twins are not going to go for top level FA's so trading talent when they are at or near their top has to be part of the equation.  

Full disclosure: I was in the Yes column for trading Correa at the deadline.

Reasons:

1. Deal a player at peak value finally (so must get quality pitching in return)
2. Opens potential spot for Julien earlier in season
3. Arraez has history of balky knees and they are not going to improve with age

It would depend entirely on the age of the pitcher and how many years of control we would have.  Arraez is only 25 and we have control for a little while, at least, and I would not trade him for an older pitcher who only has one year, or even two depending on who, regardless of how good we think he is.  But if he were a younger pitcher who has proven himself, not only on the mound but in staying reasonably healthy, and we would get maybe 2 years with options for more (or even 3) I would have to say yes.  But, damn, I hate the thought of it; he has been my favorite player since he came up.  I would miss him a lot.

I came to say basically exactly what @Mark G just said.

I'd hate to trade him cuz he's my favorite Twin to watch right now. But if you can get young, controllable pitching I'd do it. I will add that I don't think they can get that in a straight 1 for 1 trade, though.

I have argued that Arraez isn’t a player to build around this offseason. He has elite bat control and will always hit for a high average, he has positional flexibility and seems very popular both with fans and teammates, but he barely made it through last season due to aching knees and hammies. In addition, he has pronounced platoon splits and minimal power and speed. Getting someone to front the rotation who has durability and at least two years of team control would be a win.

Doubtful someone gives us truly high-end starting pitching for him alone.  I would trade him only as part of a full teardown/rebuild, at this point. Or at least as part of some bigger strategy than simply to "sell high" on a player we think to have flaws and injury risk.

Having missed out on Correa means they still need to market this team somehow.  Winning solves a lot of PR problems but trading Arraez won't contribute directly to that.  But he is marketable.  The FO has quite a Gordian knot to untie and they don't have the means to cut through by brute force with dollars.

I like Arraez, but if an opportunity comes up, it'd be hard not to. His trade value has been slipping and his value has jumped up some, this is the highest he'll get from now on. Being a one dimensional player he's expendable.  

I think we could by-pass using Arraez by having a Kepler/ Marquez type trade or dipping more into the tremendous glut that FO manufactured in corner OF lefty bat. I'm afraid with this current FO pitching philosophy we can't have too much pitching. So Arraez is our best option.

The future Twins lineups look to be filled more with high on base percentage type hitters and less high strikeout, occasional homer, low average types. With that in mind, why trade your number 1 hitter who currently fills that requirement on your roster. He may only play 125-130 games a year for you, but how is that much different than most players in baseball? If a trade, I would let someone initiate the trade proposal and then expect them to over whelm me.

Even though Arraez possesses many good skills such as excellent batting average with limited power but he seems to lack a little in the field skills, he not fast, and most of all his knees are a great concern. How well will they stand-up with 3-5 more years of playing? This may be the peak of his trade value. Miami  has couple young pitchers such as Lopez or Cabrera or others that trip my trigger.  Both are young and have good stats an are a few years from free agency.

Another pitcher that intrigues me is Marquez of the Rockies and he has problems pitching at home but is better on the road and pitched a lot of innings. He is in his late 20s and reasonable.

I mean, maybe I would trade Arraez, everyone has their price, but I have no confidence that the front office would be able to identify the right trade partner and the right pitcher. None at all. Anyone who voted No to this poll could probably pull off a better trade just by spitballing, than Falvey or Levine. ? ?

I like Arraez, he's one of my favorite Twins.  But the time to trade him is now when his value is at a peak, especially with Polanco as our starting 2B and Julien on the way.  I agree with Doc Gast on a Kepler for Marquez trade because Marquez could rebound getting away from Coors Field and he's a horse.  A true innings eater.  I would do that trade, but I would also be willing to trade Arraez straight up for Edward Cabrera or Arraez and Larnach for Pablo Lopez.

Trade him for controllable pitching?  Lol. Seriously what a joke. Could have easily signed Bassitt and Anderson to three year deals for about the same as CC and Gallo,  Then we would have had an additional two controllable solid veteran innings eaters and still have Arraez.

So you make up for your bone head CC mistake by trading your best position player, (sorry, hate to break it to all of you, but Buxton only plays half a season at best), fan favorite and All Star? Instead of trading Arraez, they should fire Falvey.

The Twins will probably have to make some 40 man trades in order to complete this roster. 

However, I contend that we need more hitting as it stands today.

If we trade Arraez... we will need even more hitting than what we already need. I don't know how they are going to find what we need with Arraez.  

Arraez is one of the few hitters currently on the roster that is help the team win consistently with the bat in his hands.

100% I'd deal him for a minor leaguer in AA or AAA who they think can be a #2 or better. 100 times out of 100. 

Likely hurts in 2022....but I'm willing to take that chance.

I would deal him in a New York minute for the right pitcher. He would have to be combined with another substantial asset to bring back a good starter but I’m ok with that. Polanco is the guy I wouldn’t trade. He’s essentially been our best player over the last 4-5 years and is on a cheap contract. He is so much more valuable than Arreaz but people just don’t get it.

If the question is simply would I trade Arraez for a #1 then the answer is yes. Pitching in baseball typically always wins in the playoffs...probably why the Twins haven't won in 20 years.

If the question is do I trade Arraez or Polanco then the answer is 100% Polanco. Arraez is better in high leverage situations, later in games, Arraez has played in more games over the last 2 years and is 3 years younger

For a # 1?  Yes.  Arraez won a batting title with an OPS under .800.  That's hard to do.
