USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 I'd be very surprised if he makes his next start. Still, good news.
CRF Verified Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 That's about as good a news as we could hope for. Only problem is...this makes twice in the last 5-6 weeks that this pretty much same issue has happened to him. You just can't help wondering that there's more going on with his shoulder, that's being missed somehow. Fingers crossed. Hope he only misses a turn and is back ok after that.
ChineseGandalf Verified Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 That is really good news... that must mean that the MRI came back clean. Hopefully there's nothing under the surface here though... the fact that this has been a recurring problem for him is very concerning.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 That's good news. Not sure what it means that this has happened twice this year now. Way back before the deadline, I did suggest making him a 2 inning RP, but I think that would just have him throw harder, which would be bad.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Good news, even if he's out for a couple of starts.
Game7-91 Verified Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 That's great news, but Ive grown skeptical of teams medical pronouncements having to be adjusted later. Skubal was day-to-day, until he wasnt. Hopeful I am. But pensive. Need to see him back and throwing normally to breathe easy.

Day to day can just as easily mean "we don't know yet."

I think I'd actually endorse him not making his next start. Give him a bit of a rest and hopefully they can ride him down the remainder of the season.
AZTwin Verified Member Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I was about to say, organizations seem to only send damage goods for pitchers. How many of the trades have our pitchers been hurt a few appearances in? Paddack Guy from Giants now Mahle? Deleon was damage goods too for the trade that never happened.
Original_JB Verified Member Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Come on. This is the Twins' crack medical staff, where 'bruises' turn into broken bones after a week or so; and 'strains' turn into 'torn this or thats'; This is just their first optimistic guess. I'm going to go big and bold and go on record that even if he makes another start this year, he'll come out early, and then we'll find out the actual level of his injury.
Doctor Gast Verified Member Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 They knew that Mahle had a sore shoulder when he was traded but he was pitching thru it. Knowing this they should have dialed Mahle back but to avoid the blow back from some fans & Mahle himself they left him in. If they had conserved him, he'd be still pitching against HOU.

A lot of injuries for sure but Maeda and Odorizzi were healthy the season after being traded. As we’re bullpen pieces like Romo.

Well it's against Houston, so the Twins might as well be just put Nick Gordon on the mound because we know they prefer not to score runs against the Astros any more.

Not a bad idea, as the 'Stros just hung a 21 spot on the WipeSox, may need to waste a few innings. Maybe Blyleven and Black Jack could come out of retirement for a quickie.
