Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Good luck to Alcala. And, yikes, that's a big step down, imo.
jmlease1 Verified Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Hopefully it's just a quick trip where he was a little overheated from the start of the season, but it's worrisome. he was looking like an important arm.
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Hoping it’s a preemptive trip and he’ll be back in the minimum
cheeseheadgophfan Verified Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Why Jax? Why not Minaya who could take over the same role.......
Sielk Verified Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 I just hope it's not as bad as it sounds. But when I hear elbow inflammation for a pitcher who throws that hard, I fear the worst. Especially considering how much his velo was down in Spring Training. I wish him the best!
cheeseheadgophfan Verified Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Yeah....I noticed even in his few appearances so far that his velo had dropped to 93-94. Lots of sliders.

mikelink45 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 What a sad post - I am shocked and disappointed. Jax does not equal Alcala. I would have like Moran, Cano or another actual reliever.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 I hope for the best but would not be surprised by the worst. There are limitations to what human bodies are capable of doing and elite athletes have a tendency to push beyond the limitations.
LastOnePicked Verified Member Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Sad for him, but hopeful he'll pitch for club again as soon as the healing - or surgery and recovery - will allow. It's a reminder that depth matters. All MLB teams will get plenty of these reminders throughout the year. Go get 'em, Captain Jax. Maybe the reliever role will refresh his big-league career.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 I noticed Alcala’s velo was down as well. Jax gets the first shot in the bullpen merry-go-round.

bighat Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Darn. He was a key part of this 'pen. Maybe Winder steps into the Alcala role?

I wonder if it would be best to take any pitcher just signed from amateur status, and have them go through TJ surgery, first. Even though it could happen again, it may reduce the chances.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 [Praying to the baseball gods]...Please let this be a minor injury and let Alcala get back ASAP. Hasn't there been enough bad luck spent on Minnesota teams...especially last year in regard to the Twins...that aren't we due for a karma swing and have a little good luck for a change? I HATE saying this...thinking I'm just going to "hex" the situation...BUT, if this somehow turns out bad...(currently wearing a Twins T-shirt and sending up yet another prayer to the BG)...having someone like Minaya available doesn't suck.
Shaitan Verified Member Posted April 13, 2022 Posted April 13, 2022 Twins site's article said his elbow was bugging him in ST too. Never a good sign.

What is “normal” discomfort and when is something wrong? Hope for the best, but reality is that this could be a serious issue.
