Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted August 3, 2018 Author Posted August 3, 2018 I look at these additions as why not type of moves. The Twins had 2 open spots on the 40 man roster and rather than leaving them empty claimed a couple of placeholder guys. I seriously doubt either Drake or Field will be on the 40 man roster in a few weeks. Even more, they may try to get them through waivers soon and into the organization. Drake's minor league strikeout rate this year are crazy, as a starter. So, ,I feel for the Twins/Red Wings guys, but I cant' completely hate this.

Or not. Maybe a site that never questioned the team would be really popular.

If the Twins claimed them, chances are someone else will too.

Let this play out before throwing your computers out the window. And what, pray tell, do you suppose the FO knows about Matt Belisle that (apparently) 29 others don’t?
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Drake is a terrible move if the team is at all serious about giving an actual look to Busenitz, Curtis, Reed, Bard and company. Drake better be on waivers by the end of the week and either claimed by another club or in Rochester.

twins_89 Verified Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Then why claim them at all? There is a cost involved. I'm not sure there really is much cost involved. The Twins can waive both of them today if they decide they can make a better use of the 40 man roster spots. The claims cost minimal money and don't limit flexibility going forward, so I don't really see an issue. If they stay on the 40 man roster when it's time for September call-ups then I'll be concerned.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 My guess? The Twins braintrust has already made up their minds about Busenitz, Curtis, Reed, Bard and company, and they no likey. They already let Burdi and Chargois go, and Bard once too. The must lack spin or some other micro-quality. Or they have a fetish for 43rd round draft picks.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Why are they is a good question...none of them have been lights out in the majors...nor have they been lights out in AAA. the way this FO has been acquiring talent I think we'll see some 40 man turnover this off season. No doubt. If the FO has no interest seeing what the AAA relievers can do for 2 months in a lost season there's no point keeping them anymore. Let them find another team that will give them a chance.
redstorm Verified Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 If they aren't going to give them a look.....not protecting Chargois and Rodrigeuz look like REALLY bad moves..... Chargois especially. Rodriguez's minor league career pitching numbers wouldn't have led most to believe he was capable of quite what he is currently doing. And who knows if he would've produced this well had he still been with the Twins.

VATwinsFan Verified Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 And to think that last December the Twins could've signed Hector Rondon (2.35 ERA, 10 saves, 1.12 WHIP with the 'Stros) for practically nothing. Well $8.5 million is not exactly nothing but it was for two years. Oh well.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 This conversation, pray tell, isn't about Belisle. It is about what the FO supposedly knows that “we” don’t and presumably the FO of the THREE teams that already let Drake go THIS YEAR don’t know. If they can be wrong about Belisle, and I have seen no one who thinks they are right, they can be wrong about others. There’s a lot of smart people on this site. A lot of them have been watching baseball for longer than Falvey has been alive.

Let this play out before throwing your computers out the window. This has been the meme for 2 years, for 5 years, for 10 years..... hell..... forever it seems. You can accept it, if you like. That is a homer thing to do, for sure. The cumulative results, for all these increments, however, say different. They are guessing, just like everyone else not on the payroll, and so far, the results show that they are not guessing very well. And, because all those other teams mindtrust's have already cast them off, are they the ones that are wrong, and our guys not? Many thought they were smart for signing Odorizzi, Lynn, and Morrison, too. Results show that is not the case.
mngopherguy Provisional Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Getting fired up over two waiver pick up's is mind boggling to me. If Drake is blocking anyone from AAA the rest of the season, then maaaaayybbbee, I'd be a little annoyed. This is finding a reason to get upset.

You guys gotta let things play out before you start panicking. This isn't Terry Ryan's team anymore.

Rodriguez's minor league career pitching numbers wouldn't have led most to believe he was capable of quite what he is currently doing. And who knows if he would've produced this well had he still been with the Twins. They are billed as pitching experts, our front office guys. They get paid to see and identify what Rodriguez had. That is their job. Hell, Rodriguez was in the show in May! That is a massive whiff!

Doomtints Verified Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Very silly thing to be angry about.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 For how long? Why not let things play out before getting riled up? Personally having him on the MLB team at all is insulting. How long does he have to be on roster until it's okay to be upset?

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Field is OF depth at AAA with Buxton in the DL. These guys are running out of OFs. Other than Wade, they have Corcino, Hazelbaker and Kemmer. I dunno about Drake...
