Call Up Tyler Duffey

4 appearances - 11 IP - 0.00 ERA - 14/1 K/BB - 3 hits allowed

Call him up for Kinley or Hildenberger.

Preferably the former, but the latter is making a strong early season case for demotion.

Eh, I'd like to wait until Duffey has thrown more than 4 appearances in Rochester. He was a poor pitcher in two full seasons from 2016-17, and he failed to make the bullpen, so a good two week streak in AAA doesn't mean much to me.

Either way, Hildy should be in AAA and Kinley shouldn't be in the major leagues, so they'll have to try some other arms. Duffey will get another chance at some point.

BTW I see our old pal D. J. Baxendale has thrown 8 innings with an earned run in AAA.

I don’t know if Kinley should be in the major leagues.

I do know he is 27. This isn’t a case where you take a rule 5 pitcher and stash him in the back of the pen with hopes for the future as they did with Ryan Pressly at 24.

At 27, he needs to produce now. He needs to be used now. I don’t know if Luke Bard (also 27) will be a good reliever. The Angels are using him regularly to mixed results. If you draft a 27 year old in the rule 5, you do so because you believe he can help in the current season.

Use him or lose him.

After the spring Duffey had, I'd leave him there for more appearances.  He was awful this spring.  Let him build some confidence.

As far as I can tell, the only player we have with anywhere near the stuff of Kinley, is Pressly. Let it playout. He cost us $100,000, and I'm assuming Miami will be much more likely to make a deal, than the Red Sox would with Haley.

Pressly?

Unless Duffey has magically improved working with runners on, he'd just be a long guy. Not sure that's a real need right now.

John Curtiss would be a better fit if you want someone to work their way up to tight spots.

i think the Twins should call up JT Chargois as he is looking healthy and....   OOPS!

Isn't he the one every team in baseball passed on except the Dodgers and Astros? With our favorite team, healthy pitchers are center stage. If you don't have a track record of being healthy, your future as a Twin isn't very good.

They'll probably need a long guy on Sunday with Hughes starting...

Hughes has done well against High-A hitters, that's basically what that sorry Rays lineup is featuring, so I'm not too concerned.

Let's start a pool on how long this guy will have to be. I say five innings.

The longest bullpen appearance will be 1 inning. Hughes is going 6 innings. Book it.

Not an unfair point. But in that case, they can make the move afterward. I would suspect they'd let Kinley and Moya soak that one in, then send out Moya.

They just scored 8 runs yesterday. Pretty good for a high A lineup I guess?

I want Tyler Duffey to be a looong man, if he can handle the job again.

But, wait and see for now.

Rule 5 complications. $13 million Hughes complications. Of course, the Twins could also send down Moya or Hildenberger. At some point, one hopes, Duke and Rodney could find a new job and give the Twins some salary back and some rookies (Cyrtiss, Baxendale, Reed) a chance to play and shine, equally.

The Twins handed them about 6 of those runs. That lineup is awful.

They may be awful (though statistically they are middle of the pack in AL), but they've managed 18 runs in 2 games against us.

Moya and Kinley are not acceptable when the key bullpen guys are doing as poorly as they have.  We cannot afford to throw away two roster positions.

Luke Bard has been cut by the Angels. If he clears waivers, do we keep him in the system for a $50,000 return? I say YES! We could even afford to cut loose Kinley, have an open roster spot. What ya say?

I say I’d rather not have a guy who’s allowed 4 HR to the 50 odd hitters he’s faced.

Does he need to be on the 40? If not, of course they keep him.

The Angels can’t afford to stash a rule 5 when they are trying to compete. Minnesota might follow their lead.

He doesn't need to be on the 40 if he's back with the Twins. He only needs to be on the 25/40 for other teams per rule 5 rules.

Thanks a lot Vanimal.

Yeah... I guess he's just a AAAA arm. At least we know this now and for the future! I'm not going to be upset if he's DFA'd to make room for someone else.
