Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 On his way....you heard it here firstCongrats...well deserved !!I heard Mauer to the DL, so Granite up? Where did you see/hear about Granite?
Blake Verified Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 It's funny, I was ready to see Mauer go at the beginning of the season. But, Mauer seems to have turned a corner and now I don't like seeing him out. Anyway, let's hope this is another of the Twins excellent young position players. The Twins may have trouble with pitching but they sure have produced some position players lately.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 For whom?Mauer to the DL, so if this is true, I'm assuming it's the corresponding move, or someone's wishful thinking, as I've seen nothing regarding a corresponding move. Which is why I asked from what source Gagne Fan heard this.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 And now I'm seeing Vargas on the way back up.
70charger Verified Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 And now I'm seeing Vargas on the way back up.That makes way more sense to me. 1B for 1B. How would Granite even get playing time if he took Mauer's roster spot? There's no way I'm playing him over Kepler, Buxton, or Rosario.
Blake Verified Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 And now I'm seeing Vargas on the way back up.Well, shoot. I was hoping to see Granite. But, if Mauer is going to the DL, Vargas makes sense.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Yeah, I think the OP heard someone speculating who and jumped the gun saying it was Granite.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Since Mauer did not appear in the last two games he would be eligible to return Saturday after the Break, or the second game after the Break.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 I'm a little disappointed it's not Garver coming up (he can play 1B), but it probably won't matter very much. Joe will be back shortly and they'll probably keep going with Sano at 1B and Escobar at 3B.
Obsvr Verified Member Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 lol. why would they ever bring up another outfielder to replace their hurt first baseman. I'd like to see them find a way to get him up here, but people need to chill.

jimmer Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Well, there is always the option of putting Kepler at 1B.that was what I was going to say.
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Plot thickens... EDIT: Probably Jorge down after his start.
Darius Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Jorge sent back down before the 4th inning.

Jorge probably wouldn't start agsin (even if he remains in the rotation) until the 5th game after the break. That's way more than 10 days ftom now. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hildenberger go down too. Maybe for Gee or Turley. Hildenberger wouldn't likely be used tomorrow or Sunday.
darin617 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Twins post game Molitor just announced Zach Granite will be called up. Not sure where he will be finding playing time.

Not sure where he will be finding playing time. The Twins might start Kepler at first and put Granite in RF. It's not like the Twins to call a younger guy up and not play him.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 This reminds me of the Rosario call-up back in 2015 and Kepler call-up back in 2016. Both were just to get a cup of coffee and stay on the bench, but both took the bull by the horns and ended up become starters quicker than imagined. I'm not sure if Granite will do the same thing, but it'd be great if he could.

His having success at the MLB level this year is dependant on the failure or injury of Rosario, Buxton or Kepler (well, I suppose Grossman or Mauer too).
Whammy Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 This leads me to believe that Mauer's back is more serious of a problem than we might believe and Kepler will be splitting time at 1b with Vargas, and Granite will be playing a decent amount of RF

Jorge was just going to sit around and do nothing for the next 12 days. At least this way, the Twins actually have a guy that might be useful for a minimum of 3 games. I don't think the Twins would have waited to DL him if his back injury was that serious.
darin617 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Grossman may as well find a mystery injury so he can go on the DL since he should be just a bench player now. No more Grossman as DH please!!!
drock2190 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 He's almost 25 without much pop so corner outfield doesn't seem like the right fit. Plus he bats left handed which hurts as well since both our corner outfielders are lefties that struggle versus lefties.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 It may be two games with a reliever coming back after the break. It gives them a better bench for these two games without any impact on the pitching. Smart move.
BoofBonser Verified Member Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Give Granite a start and DH Rosie or Kep

The Twins will likely stick with Granite until Mauer is activated or a 5th starter is needed.

No more Grossman as DH please!!! robbie grossman is currently getting on base in nearly 38% of his at bats. he should be hitting in front of sano basically every day
