Mejia due to pitch today but it got rained out. Tepesch has a 75 pitch limit due to not having pitched in about 10 days.

Not sure why they wouldn't bring Mejia back up to start tomorrow and send Tepesch (or Tonkin. Or Pressly) down on Wednesday to make room for Berrios.

Looking forward to Tepesch pitching on 10-days Rest!

He last pitched for Rochester on April 20. If he starts Saturday, that would be 15 days of rest.

Calling that poor roster management would be kind. It also re-emphasises that the front office is being less than truthful to the fans that are ultimately paying the bills. The Twins were supposedly so concerned with Berrios' layoff due to the WBC. Yet, they are perfectly content to throw a guy out there that hasn't pitched in a real game in 15 days. It shows that what they said about Berrios in March was less than truthful and therefore causes anything they say going forward to be viewed with skepticism.

Why what? Tepesch is a 28 yr old non-prospect that is nothing more than a warm body.

And I don't need Saturday to confirm. Send up a real starting pitcher.

You do realize that Tepesch's record in the majors is better than any other pitcher's the Twins have in the minors, correct?

You do realize that the SSS MLB records for prospects is utterly meaningless, correct?

Or do you think Tepesch is actually a better pitcher than Berrios (and Mejia)?

Fact: Tepesch pitched 223 innings in the majors with 4.68 ERA, 4.66 FIP, and 1.372 WHIP.  Berrios pitched 58-1/3 innings in the majors with 8.02 ERA, 6.20 FIP, and 1.869.

Is this small sample?   Berrios pitched 14 games.  About half a season.  He made 2 more starts for the Twins than Andrew Albers.  How about Albers?  Small sample too?  Did he get stiffed by the Twins?

I think that Tepesch right now is likely a better pitcher than  Berrios and Mejia   Also, he might be a better pitcher than Hughes.  We will find out.

Do I think that Tepesch has Berrios's or Mejia's ceiling?  No, of course.  But I think that he gives the Twins potentially a better possibility of wining right now, than either of them, and I'd love to find out whether this is the case.

The Twins are competing and have to play the players who will give the best possibility to win right now.

This is not about developing Berrios.

This isn't about development. It is about taking the chance of bringing up an actual good SP this season instead of guaranteed mediocrity (the REAL mediocre) of Tepesch.

I can actually see the Twins logic in this though. They need to find another starter (after Berrios is called up) and want to see if Tepesch can survive. Yay! Fun!

My opinion....

The Twins are off to a better start than most people anticipated. This seems to be causing a large number of contributors to Twins Daily to be dreaming of playoff tickets. I really don't think that is a posibility this year. So, if my opinion is closer to reality, then the front office mindset should be focused on what is best for the young prospects and not what would appease the Twins Daily commenters. If Falvey/Levine think Berrios et. al. would be better served by a longer stay in the minors, I'm okay with that. There has to be some reason these guys were hired for the front office, rather than giving their jobs to one of us idiots.

You could look at it this way, not a bad perspective.

On the other hand, you could ask yourself this: If the Twins do make the playoffs this year (or even contend), is it more likely that Tepesch was a factor or Berrios?

When Pressly gets demoted, Berrios will be called up. When Tonkin gets demoted, Mejia will be called up. By then, Tepesch can be the long reliever or spot starter.

One gets the feeling that Gibson is in complete denial. He just needs to go to Rochester and earn his way back up. I like Duffy in the pen but we may have to put him in the rotation.

I'd go back to Berrios and Meija first.  Heck I'm even willing to give Wheeler a couple of starts.  Duffey is not a permanent solution as a starter unless he can develop a viable 3rd pitch and use it consistently.  That said, he's a better option than Gibson worse case scenario.

Adrianza is activated.

Also rumor of a reliver coming. Maybe the end of DSan.

Interestingly Santana homered yesterday and went 2-for-4.

Not only a homer but a majestic shot.

Had to DFA him now, he was due for a couple more games like that and then he'd be claimed!

Thankfully, Drew Rucinski does have an option remaining, by virtue of spending all of 2016 in the minors and not on a 40-man roster. So he can be optioned in a week for a starter.

Finally starting to clear out the no option remaining mediocrity for the option remaining mediocrity.

This is perfectly expressed and exactly what they need to do.

They're opting for the optimal option rather than the suboptimal.

I have defended/supported Gibson for years, but enough is enough. I'm thrilled that they sent him down and didn't give him another 45 starts to "find himself" or some such. He's been awful all year and it's increasingly clear that Kyle Gibson is a 4A pitcher. He teases you with those occasional 8 inning 1 run performances, but he never sustains it. That's the definition of the 4A player: they'll clean up in AAA, but when they get to the majors they only occasionally show it. For a hitter it'll be that good month before they fall off the cliff, but for a pitcher it's probably Exhibit A, Kyle Gibson. For every great start, you get 2-3 that are garbage. A good year gets him to league average.

Time to move on.

I'm fine with sending him down, rather than cutting him, though. Cutting him just sets money on fire, might as well keep him if you're going to pay him. Injuries might require you toss him back out there to eat some innings. Just don't give him another arbitration raise and keep him on the roster next season (I'm not worried Falvey doesn't seem like a guy who will get fooled by Gibson. Unlike me for several seasons)

Yeah my biggest worry is that Gibson ends up doing solid in AAA, has a couple "meh" starts in the 2nd half of the season for the Twins and then decide to offer him arb (and effectively another starting spot for 2018)

Unless he reinvents himself somehow in the minors, I'd rather just move on at this stage.
