Part II in "how to improve and rebuild a struggling baseball team in the proper fashion": Get May healthy. Get May down to Rochester to rehab and stretch out. Get May back up to Minnesota as a starting pitcher for the remainder of the year.

Can't wait to see that fastball.

Can we get Hildenberger up to AAA to replace Chargois now?

Still thinking the same thing? Obviously the Red Sox loved his fastball, they hit line drives all over when he accidentally threw a strike..

That wasn't even batting practice - those were rocket launches!  Chargois is going to need a therapist after this introduction.

I'll attribute it to first game nerves.  He'll be alright.

"Dead Straight". The description of Chargois' fastball.

Today illustrates the fallacy of examining only the speed of a pitcher's fastball.

The joys of your first game of baseball. Shows you quickly the difference between a competing team with a major league lineup and the guys you face in AA ball (and briefly in AAA).

Considering basically 23 of the 25 players are always brutally terrible and ineffective at the same time, I'm about to throw every individual stat in the trash and chalk 2016 up to some systematic undiagnosed and contagious mental disease.

It would seem mathematically impossible for this team to have the 23 worst players in the whole league.

Hazmat suits and quarinteen are in order. No more prospect call ups until the antidote is found. Keep. Them. Away.

So, like a total system failure?

This thread is a good illustration of how quickly fandom can turn on a guy... though I guess we knew that... I mean we know a guy can be a Hall of Fame caliber guy for a decade and people can turn, so why not a top relief pitching prospect after one whole outing.

What do you think happened out there today Seth?

Do you think he could have been tipping his pitches?

The guy has MLB caliber stuff.

Man this is such a cruel sport.

I'm willing to wait and see how his 2nd appearance goes.

You'd give him a 2nd appearance? You old softie.

Thank you. The Sox looked quite comfortable in the box despite the velocity.

All we can do is read the glowing prospect reports guys like you post and then watch the results not match up. Hopefully he will be better next time (he could hardly be worse).

As far as I can see, it looks like your only takeaway so far from the Chargois episode is that Twins fans suck.   If there's more elsewhere or in the works, I apologize.

But "turn on a guy"?    Isn't that a bit extreme?

Three posts in the thread pretty much just pointed out the painfully obvious, which was that Shaggie was very hittable and/or wild his first time out.  Is that observation really in dispute?     And one post generously noted that MLB debut jitters can be tough on pitchers, while another noted that since virtually everything else has gone wrong for the Twins, why not Chargois' first outing too?

There's some negativity there, to be sure, but does that really constitute fandom turning on Chargois?

And for that matter, wasn't a negative reaction at least somewhat justified by the Twins themselves when they demoted Shaggie the day after his debut in order to make room for a waiver wire reliever?    If anything the Twins' reaction seems more negative than the fans'.

You're a good writer and you have excellent insights into the Twins, Seth, but please try not to be too hard on grumpy Twins fans like me.     We've waited through six years of mostly crappy baseball to watch a winner and unwrap the presents waiting for us under the Twins farm system tree.    Now we're finding out in this season of historically bad Twins baseball that so far the long-awaited presents are mostly ugly, uncomfortable socks.

So please bear with us, we're doing our best!    Honest!

Nobody's bringing up the fact that Chargois' first opponents he faced were Pedroia, Bogaerts, and David Ortiz? First MLB game, all of the emotions and jitters getting to this point from 2 major surgeries, and then they throw him right to the wolves saying "Good luck, kid."

In the game thread I started Sunday, I joked that I hoped Chargois wasn't on a plane back to Rochester. So I was looking through the box scores from this week and was wondering why I hadn't seen him pitch again. Five days! Then I discover he was optioned for Neil Ramirez. Seriously? Seriously?!? They gave him one freaking appearance? This whole organization is a joke.
