  1. Easy one - Ron Davis. I think at one point he was tied for most blown saves in a season. Opposing teams must have loved him. In 1984 he managed to lose games in creative ways too. I remember one game when a thunderstorm partially deflated the Dome. The Twins were sailing along with a huge lead. Davis was either already pitching before the interruption or came in after the Dome re-inflated. Doesn't matter. After the game continued he managed to totally blow the huge lead we had and the Twins lost. What matters more - Davis was my 8 year old daughter's favorite player. She stoically watched him until he gave up enough runs for the Twins to lose the lead. Then she cried. And he became my least liked player forever.
  2. I have to agree with a lot that has been presented for future bullpen potential. Just quit mentioning Tonkin and Wimmers in the same sentence. Makes me upchuck every time and I'm gonna be down to dry heaves soon. Must be some auto-reflex thang.
  3. And then we watch Arcia get put in right field today and butcher a routine out. That has been and always will be why he doesn't get consistant playing time, regardless of plate performance.
  4. Hey, I'd be all for Ozzie if for no other reason than his post game interviews. They were always hysterical!
  5. That wasn't even batting practice - those were rocket launches! Chargois is going to need a therapist after this introduction.
  6. They'll take at least 1 game from the White Sox. I'd bet on Game 3. It's been pathetic so far and reminds me a lot of the '84 or '85 team. I remember they would rip off long losing streaks of 7-8 games and then have some equally long winning streaks when they looked like all-stars. I also remember drinking heavily that season.
  7. Dick Bremer quote of the game........."Trevor May - part of a very reliable Twins bullpen". I really want whatever Dick's smokin'
  8. I don't really understand why anybody is surprised with the bullpen so far. We are seeing exactly what we saw in spring training and at the end of the 2015 season. Jepsen could be okay IF he can hit his spots for more than 1 batter. I would like to think he can, but any good outings from Fien and Tonkins should be thought of as a treat, not what's to be expected. Pressly should be all right. I think part of this bullpen group was thrown together in the hopes that they could hold together for a couple months while some of the young guns got seasoned a bit more in the minors. It's only been 4 games after all - we haven't even gotten a game where Perkins could be used yet! As far as Tonkins - I'd rather not see him at all. There may be a lingering predictable stink but we can't say the bullpen sucks - not yet anyway.
  9. Fien is trending himself towards AAA, where he belonged anyway after his spring training non-performance.
  10. No, no, no, no, GAWD no! I know some of his stats are great but I've got too many of his blown saves forever burned in my brain. I don't think this one is worth a roster spot.
  11. I'd love to see the Morneau of year's past doing it again for the Twins. However, that's just it - those years are in the past. To me the stats and everything else don't matter. The odds that he'd be able to be available for a full season are just about zero. The ongoing concussion and other injury issues should rightly push him into retirement. I can't see anyone taking the risk and picking him up.
  12. Love Buxton in the field, but he isn't even hitting his weight anymore.
  13. Last nights misplay gave me a flashback of Willie Norwood's adventures in center field. Yes, it could be worse.
  14. If Hicks makes the catch we'd be talking about how Duensing got out of a big jam. Instead, I thought I was having a Willie Norwood flashback.
  15. I think it's going to take Hicks much longer than a few weeks to climb his way out of the minors. The Organization remembers how great he looked in spring training in 2013 and 2014 and then bombed. This spring he failed to impress and the mental mistakes probably hurt his chances worse than anything. I don't think anyone wants to hang their hat on him this soon after his repeated flameouts of the past.
  16. Good thoughts and info on Paul and Doug. If these were the only 2 options I'd have to agree and go with Doug. However, I think these recent years have shown that there's nothing necessarily positive about bringing someone up from within the organization. A new boss from elsewhere is needed to shake things up. The status quo sure hasn't worked.
  17. At least this happened while he was still a "prospect". This recovery and rehab will be a real test of Sano's mental toughness along with his physical abilities. Because he hasn't hit the majors yet the Twins shouldn't be tempted to rush the rehab.
  18. Watching uglyball like this requires drinking.
  19. I also agree with Boom Boom. The main deciding factor is that he's 38-years-old. His best years are past and he's not going to improve. Going with an "elderly" outfielder - that's going the wrong direction for a rebuilding team.
  20. Good stuff. I still don't see how he'll ever fit in any outfield position if the arm doesn't improve - speedy or not. Sacrifice runs to get his bat and speed? Tough call for someone in the future. Who knows, he might even end up as trade bait for our pitching woes but it's hard to get much value when he's barely been up to the majors.
  21. I think my favorite Hughes moment was a game last August when he whacked 2 run and 3 run homers against Detroit. If not Burroughs then it was definitely Hughes who was most likely to go bye bye in a situation like this. Personally, I'd sooner have seen Plouffe go down the road.
  22. I think the quality of the at-bats came into play. Burroughs was really becoming a tough out later in spring training while Dinkelman had a few ugly outs. Just a guess but it might have been one of the deciding factors. I think we're pretty fortunate that it came down to a choice between these two. It'll be interesting to see how Gardenhire handles this new mix to start the year.
  23. I think today's game showed what Benson brings to centerfield....and what Revere doesn't - an arm. Last week I watched Revere bobble a grounder in left and try to quickly throw it to 3rd when the runner tried to advance. I was surprised at the rainbow throw that was way off target. I can't see good things happening if he was in center. Even left field is going to be an adventure.
