Twins 3, Royals 2: Royce Lewis Walks Off the Royals!

Would have been a super frustrating loss: Bradley pitched quite well, the bullpen did the job, but the offense wasn't holding up their end. It's not a very good KC team, even if they've been on a bit of a hot streak. Of course, they still have Sal Perez, who could be riding an 0-46 streak, and I'll still assume that he's going to nail the Twins in some fashion. Can't wait for him to retire.

5 DPs. That's just brutal. normally 10 hits and 4 walks will generate more than 3 runs.

Nice to see Royce come in and walk it off, though. Been a tough year for Royce and you like to see him come up big in a key moment.

Really needed this win. Want to see a sweep, but will settle for a series win. I really want the Twins to be buyers and not sellers this deadline, and this was a key game for that goal.

You don’t need to drop anyone, you have 60 day IL options. If DFA, send gray packing. He has no future on this team this year and beyond. Twins won’t so nice to dream but of youth and bringing excitement to a team and fans. Still said that we are celebrating .500 baseball at end of July. August will either break the twins with the big boys in the schedule, but this team has found a way,,,see what way that will be soon

Does anyone have the catch probability of Perez' fly ball single? Provus miscalled it as a potential gapper IIRC, so it would appear to be one of those big swing poorly hit ball that get misjudged fairly often. Also, was Lewis' hit catchable? I watched the replay a couple of times and couldn't see exactly where it hit off the wall.

there was something we see very rarely ..a come from behind Twins win.. let alone a walk off ??? exciting win .. glad they didn't waste another Bradley Gem.

It was one of those mighty swing turned into a lob wedge type of hits. The ball was in the air a really long time. It’s a great example of the kind of play that doesn’t show in the box score. On a good defensive club that ball would have been caught. 
Royces hit was off the wall above where it could be caught.

Yes, I’m not sure why it wasn’t ok to cheer for him all along? To not support someone because he’s struggling, injured, or combination of the 2., I guess irks me a bit.  I guess some may like to kick a guy while he’s down is the only reason I can guess.

I don’t view this as one of Tajs better games as he struggled with his command but the strikeouts are always there. In a weird way it’s a compliment to him that he still had a pretty dominant start without having his best command. Happy for Royce - really good to see that hit go to right. He is getting worked hard away and has been better at laying off that stuff. A few doubles to right / center and he might start seeing some pitches on the inner half. The Twins really struggle with the double steal with a man on third. I don’t understand why they even tried to throw through there as Kriedler was playing back and never got in front of the bag which is the fundamental there. Of course both throws were terrible but I’m not sure two good throws gets him. That was a huge run they gave up trying a play they rarely execute properly.

Yes. Glad to eke out a win. 5DPs (sheesh), and two of them started by first baseman :O. The PH and injury replacements had meant that we couldn't PR for Caratini in the 9th, but glad that it didn't really matter with the walk-off triple. 

Let's see what the trade deadline unfolds. As much as Jeffers is good, I would hate to see FO waste a prime opportunity to cash in on his value and then let him walk for free. Also, if Buxton stays out, I hope we have a regular center fielder.

Nice unexpected come from behind win.  Nice walk-off hit by Lewis.  I hope it's the start of a hot streak.  Hes been shuffling for a while.  Buxton?  What can you say?  We've been putting up with this for over a decade.  It's frustrating because you can't count on him to play everyday. Lets sweep the Royals and then prepare for some tougher opponents coming up.  Go Twins!!

I heard Kody Clemens' dad say on Sunday Night Baseball a few weeks back that his rule of thumb was any ball in the air for three seconds needs to be caught. The ball last night definitely seemed to meet that standard.

Forget the ERA: It can't be repeated enough, after hearing months and months of "If we still had Jax, Varland and Duran, we'd have XX more wins," how clutch this bullpen has been lately. They've won us three games in the last week alone. Amazing! Seriously, good on them. Props to Hawk, too.  

I honestly don't know who I'd want sent down/cut at this point if we traded for someone. I'd be a little cautious about messing with the chemistry right now.

Bader catches that ball. It looked like he got a bad jump off the bat. Sometimes the swing fools you and the ball doesn’t get as much velocity when it is mis-hit.

Funderburk would be the most likely candidate at this point, he still makes me nervous when he pitches.  I am hoping they have found something in Anderson, it is still a SSS but he looks like he can contribute.  Pickups like Anderson and Gomez are the ones I wish they would target, younger and maybe got caught up in the options roulette without getting a real chance.  These 30 somethings that are out of gas, we can pass on.

If Roden is the defensive player many claim he is, that ball should have been caught.  Keaschall was over there too but looked to give way to Roden correctly.

Keaschall was way too deep to catch that ball. If Buxton was still in the game, he gets the ball because he plays so much more shallow.

I didn't see an angle of their positioning before the hit, but from the replays I saw it looked like you could fit Rhode Island between Kreidler and Roden.  Maybe the new CF didn't get factored into Roden's positioning?  I dunno.  It definitely looked strange, like it shoulda been caught but also wasn't even close to getting caught.

If Buxton is headed for the IL, Culpepper would be a good call up. Not only is Kriedler our best defensive option at SS, i believe he is also the next best option in CF. 

Not sure if Culpepper is ready or not but defensively speaking, that seems like it would be the best option.

That's the date when there are only 45 service days left in the season. If they bring Jenkins up at all (I'm not convinced they will), it won't happen before that date. If they bring him up after that date, he retains his rookie status for next year. If he then wins Rookie of the Year in 2027, the Twins get an extra pick in 2028. If they bring him up before that, he would lose his status and the opportunity for the pick.

This all can change with the new CBA, but it fits the current rules and is the new way to fiddle with service time. It makes sense to play the game as we know it. 

As example, last year Baltimore brought up Samuel Basallo and Dylan Beavers on that weekend. The Orioles were pretty open in the weeks leading up that they wouldn't bring those guys up before that date.

If they say they are buyers this year and are trying to win, then you put the best 26 players on your roster.  The Orioles were out of it last year, so that was a different situation.  To gamble on a potential extra pick in 28 that may or may not still happen is a poor gamble if you truly are trying to win.  Roden is not a replacement for Buxton, Jenkins needs to be up here if Buxton goes on the IL.  Then you have a true back up in CF other than Kreidler or Clemens.

There has to be a balance between win now and doing what’s best for the player and organization’s future. Right now, they’ve got Keaschall playing CF when Buxton isn’t and Kreidler or Clemons as backup to Keaschall. Thats the short term fix and I don’t see them calling up Jenkins now, barring another injury. I don’t really like Keaschall’s defense, but FO and/or manager have made the decision that is the plan. I think it could be tough to bring up Jenkins and put him in the lineup in a playoff chase. He’s going to be under a lot of pressure when he starts his career. Would be better if it’s at the start of next season instead.
