Would they be able to bring back someone like a Bryce Mayer in a trade for Correa?  Is that too low or too high?

Astros want 50 million and one of our outfielders, or Castro fior partial salary relief. There not even barely dangling lottery tickets or any mlb talent. I tell Astros to go pound Sand.

Stewart could also happen

I think they just focus on unloading the FA’s today unless they’re blown away for any controlled guys. I think Falvey wants to “compete” next year so I don’t think he deals any of those unless a Juan Soto esque package presents itself. We’ll see though.

Interesting to see how this ends up comparing to the Duran trade.

Miller has two more years of control than Duran, and the package is headlined by an even younger, even more highly touted position player at high A coming to the A's than what the Twins are getting.

Obviously need to see how the pitching lines up

De Vries has as much or more variability than Tait.   Personally think this is a decent deal by San Diego,  cashed in on a high end prospect for 2 very good players with years of control.  To me this was a no brainer trade unless you were extremely confident he was becoming a star.

Trade calculator is up -

Padres -  Miller 30.4,  JP Sear 12.4    42.8 total -  for Athletics - Baez 1.4, Nunez   2, Nett 2.8,  De Vries 50.5.  All the value is tied to De Vries.   There is a lot more years of control with both players and it sounds like Padres want to make Miller a starting Pitcher.

What?!?! They want to make him a SP???

I was talking about this in another thread. Padres system is pretty bare. This was their one big move without getting into MLB guys which they can’t do really. I would take a chance on a guy like Omar Cruz or a lotto ticket like De la Cruz though if they wanted Vazquez. I know their catcher situation is abysmal. Why not add Vazquez to the party?

Bringing back a pitching and position prospect, Harrison Bader turned out to be an incredible free agent signing!

Really can't complain about the value we got out of our free agent signings this year - Bader, Coulumbe and France.

Mendez seems solid with good numbers in AA! They’re #12 per MLB. Good get! Not sure on Villoria

A couple weeks shy of 17. % games in DSL.

Villario   16 year old international pitcher was given 425k signing bonus.

Mendez is the #12 prospect in Phillies org - .290/.374/..434 slash line in AA. Not much power.  Is this another Gabby like prospect?

Very much looks like a Gonzalez type prospect. Will only be valuable if he actually hits.

With 2 of the archetype, better chance one actually becomes a proper major league hitter. Fingers crossed!

I’ll miss Bader patrolling the outfield but Kiersey is here so might as well play him.

I'd much rather see Gonzalez this year than Kiersey....Or Martin or ERod if ever healthy.

I hope they bring Bader back next year, though I think that is not likely.

France was a mediocre signing.  Barely replacement level production.   Has same stats this year that got him released last year.  We wish we would set the bar a little higher.

I don't think you'll see too many people upset at the bader trade for the fact he wasn't controllable for another 2.5 years.

Add in the fact he had played for us for a 4 months.  There wasn't the emotional attachment of Bader.

I like Villario pick best.  He has a long way to go, but upside is high.  Hitter has a high floor but lower ceiling IMO.  If he can hit the ball in the air more and gain some power that could change things.  Still anything for a rental is better than nothing. He's number 12 so that's pretty good for Bader.  I would have preferred an arm to a bat though at 12.

Tigers get Kyle Finnegan from Nats.

For two non-descript A ball pitchers.

Coulombe is also an expiring contract but has been much better, the Twins should get more, so this is a good benchmark to check back on.

Bader feels a lot like Carlos Santana. A largely disliked signing who put up much better offensive numbers than expected to make us (me) eat my words.

Like Santana, I wouldn't like to bank on it two years in a row though.

Man, Fangraphs really doesn't like the targets so far as much as others, Mendez isn't even an honorable mention for them as a prospect for Philly....
