LewFordLives Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 I'm assuming the Urias deal means the Astros have moved on. I'm not opposed to trading Correa, but I don't see it happening. He certainly has not played up to his contract, but he still has value, and I think determining what that value is and who pays how much makes a deal difficult. Patzky 1
gman Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Correa still owns a home in the Houston area and they spend a lot of time there during the winter. If moving, it would be better for the kids to relocate now then later. Also the Pollads are only going to pick up his salary for as long as they own the team. It might be better for the new owners to have clean check book to shop for free agents next winter. mluebker and Senior Softball Guy 2

I also don't see this as discouraging prospective free agents, because Correa would be approving the reunion with his old team. Arguably the Twins would be doing him a favor by allowing him an opportunity to get another ring. If true, and the Twins don't jump all over this chance to unload 36 mill a year of salary, then they are nuts. I don't even care if they get anything in return. Just unloading his salary is enough for me. lake_guy, glunn, NYCTK and 1 other 4

The mismanagement of the broadcast situation has put the team on a financial trajectory that makes a $35M/yr player a liability. Even if Correa was playing to his historical numbers the Twins wouldn't be contenders. The team needs to rebuild. It is really hard for the Twins to manage someone else’s broadcast business.

Twins GFP Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Regardless of what happens with Correa, a change in ownership will reset the expectations baseline. Until the team gets sold, every single decision made from trades and hires down to which type of soda is kept in the clubhouse will have a financial tinge to it. The ownership situation really needs to be resolved so a direction can be decided on. Battle ur tail off and LewFordLives 2

(who wasn't ready either and should have been getting seasoning in AAA) Rocco has already been extended for next year, unfortunately. He's not going anywhere until there's new ownership in place. Even then, they may give him a year, or some portion of the first year as a stabilizing clubhouse effect. Not that I necessarily think it'd be all that stabilizing.

Senior Softball Guy Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 If I'm a prospective buyer of the club not having to pay an aging shortstop 30 million would be a lot more attractive. Correa is what he is. We would miss his solid error free, plus plus arm, his veteran presence, but I will not miss his lack of clutch hitting and his very predictable GIDPs. I don't hate hm, but let's give some of kids a chance. shimrod 1
hitterscount Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 I still disagree with the Duran trade…had him through 27 at a reasonable price. The pitching staff is solid when Lopez returns next season and gives the team a chance to compete now. Zero issue trading Correa if you get a couple of guys that could be everyday players next season. Our issues lie with the positional players. Need a ton of work with the lineup. I see the need for two corner OF’s, 1st, 2nd, SS if you trade Correa, that’s what makes the Duran trade so headscrathing, it addresses none of the issues that this team has. If you weren’t keeping him you have to get guys that can help almost immediately. The offense and defense is that bad. And as far as being unfair to Correa and future FA’s… you have to perform. Was alright with the signing when it happened, but the return has been nowhere near what he’s getting paid and he can nix any trade.

Nshore Verified Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 The Twins are seldom in the hunt for top tier free agents anyway. And if it hinders them from signing a Correa or a Donaldson, that doesn't seem like a bad thing.

The new owners could then say they weren't the ones who traded him. But if the team is going to reduce the payroll, Correa has to be traded and the best place to get him to accept is probably Houston. The Dodgers and Dodger fans would never take him. The Yankees might and maybe the Mets. Instead of eating money the Twins might throw in Larnach to give the Astro's the lefthanded outfielder they want. I wonder what that trade would look like. Been thinking this could be one of the deals in the background with a buyer is to shed contracts so they aren't the bad guys.

The whole idea of paying one guy a superstar salary, then filling so many other slots with cheap free agents, retreads, and reclamation projects never has set well with me.
