  1. Isn't that the funny thing though? The entirety of the Falvey/Baldelli era I've been looking at the Twins roster and prospects and saying "if this happens and if that happens" then we'll have a 90 plus win team and we'll contend for the World Series. I've watched prospects absolutely obliterate the minors, only to come up to the Twins and absolutely stink in ways you'd never imagine. I've watched the starting pitching be great, only to see the relief corps give up inexplicable runs to blow a save. I've watched hitters hit monster blasts 1 out of every 20 plate appearances while looking utterly overmatched the other 19. And then, I've watched statues on the basepaths and A LOT of really poor defensive play. Well, you get the gist. If the Pohlads were anything other than the Pohlads, we'd keep Pablo and Joe and get rid of Derek and Rocco. Instead, it'll be the opposite come February. Oh well, at least Calvin Griffith no longer owns the team 😬
  2. The team's willingness to get rid of Ryan at the deadline signals to me that both Ryan and Lopez will be traded in the offseason to shed payroll. Prior to the end of 2023, the Pohlads were willing to spend money at a rate that allowed for competitive baseball. For reasons spelled out in many of other places, the Pohlads have decided that clearing red ink is much more important that fielding a competitive team for Twins fans. For that reason, I believe the payroll on starting day 2026 will be south of $100 million. Teams can be competitive south of $100 million, just look at Cleveland. However, I've lost all faith that Falvey has this organization on the right track to be competitive. His positives on the pitching side do not outweigh the negatives of his hitting philosophy and lack of development on that side. So, I'm scared to death of what he'll do with the trades of Lopez and Ryan. In short, not a very enjoyable time to be a Twins fan, and a life-long one at age 60.
  3. Quite possibly, but he's been hurt so much in his career and is ultimately a product of the previous regime.
  4. Who was the last position-player prospect that actually fulfilled the hype for the Twins at the Major League level? Brian Dozier? Don't get me wrong, I'm excited for all of these guys. I'm just not excited for them to be coached by whomever has been attempting to coach our young batters these last several years.
  5. I knew Correa wasn't the leader I wanted in the clubhouse when he explained that he had learned through the years that it was better to play at 90% in order to stay in the lineup rather than be injured. There are precious few talents that can get away with that sort of mentality and it certainly wasn't the way I was brought up in baseball in the 70's and 80's. Do you think Charlie Hustle would ever make a statement like that? Dan Gladden's head probably slightly exploded, again, when he heard that statement. I'm more than ready for a full lineup of "see ball, hit ball" types (thank you Tony!) who are playing like their butts are on fire. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure when don't have the correct manager in the dugout for that type of ball either. But that's a story for another day.
  6. Unfortunately, Derek Falvey's primary responsibility isn't toward the fans. His employer is the Pohlad family and his responsibility is toward them. There are three types of GM's in MLB, the ones who have proven themselves and are currently employed by the half dozen or so teams willing to do whatever it takes sprint for the championship on a yearly basis (Falvey, obviously, is not one of these). The ones who are busy driving organizations off cliffs while they make incredible blunders year after year and eventually get themselves fired, or know that their job is to run their organization like AAAA filler for the ones mentioned above.(You may think Falvey is one of these, but he's not). Then, there are the ones who dutifully fulfill ownerships directive to attempt to field competitive teams on a semi-regular basis to provide just enough juice to keep the turnstiles turning with fans. These GM's walk a tightrope of building and breaking down, depending on whether they are on the way up or over the hill. These GM's know there primary responsibility is to follow ownerships directive to the T and, someday, hope that they've made enough positive progress to become a GM for a prime organization (That's what Falvey Is). I'm certainly not excusing him. I think the product on the field has become quite stale under his leadership. What I am saying is, as far as the baseball ownership group is concerned, he did his job brilliantly on Thursday.
  7. I think this says way more about Vazquez the player and what the rest of MLB thinks of him compared to what the Twins think of him than you ever realized.
  8. Rocco has already been extended for next year, unfortunately. He's not going anywhere until there's new ownership in place. Even then, they may give him a year, or some portion of the first year as a stabilizing clubhouse effect. Not that I necessarily think it'd be all that stabilizing.
  9. This would definitely be addition by subtraction as far as I'm concerned. I've never been a big fan of what Correa has brought to this team in relation to the dollars it has taken to procure his services.
  10. Was that partially because they played a lot of baseball against Detroit which was seen as an "easy" team to play at the mid-point last year and ended up being the best team in baseball during the 2nd half?
  11. Certainly not the way they've played the first 90-some games. They key to the second half is having players return to health and performing and players return from slumps and performing. I'm with you though, they've got to prove it to me.
  12. Is the potential sale of a team generally this silent? It certainly didn't seem silent when Ishbia was the potential buyer. I know some billionaires like their privacy while others like the limelight. Still, you would expect a leak of some sort, wouldn't you?
  13. This was a good exercise in numbers and has much merit. However, you only need one team to have a need to make a trade. Plus, your assumption is that there will be no other pieces other than salary. The obvious answer at this point, based on teams that have top ten salaries in the league and a need to upgrade the shortstop position...the Atlanta Braves. There's your "mythical" team.
  14. It that's how we truly feel about Correa, does he need to be a salary dump at the deadline? Or is his clubhouse "presence" enough to keep him around? I've never liked the fact that he stated he realized he needed to play at 90% to make it through a season. He still hasn't made it through the last two despite not hustling 100% of the time. Has that thought process been a net negative on the team?
  15. Just based on Runs Scored vs. Runs Allowed, Detroit is the real deal. They are leading the majors. Cleveland, as always, has a W/L record that doesn't match their RS/RA stat as they are well below the .500 mark in that category. Somewhat surprisingly, this simple stat is a net positive for the Twins. Once again, a stat that suggests Cleveland does more with less and Minnesota does less with more.
  16. I'm not advocating for Gasper at all. And, no, I didn't stop playing in T-ball. I did play on a pretty good little league team though. We took 2nd place in the league in Mankato back in the day, Summer of '77 to be exact.
  17. Is that what you would've done based on your managerial experience with your "seasons" back in junior high? 😉
  18. To summarize, we're good...when we're not busy being terribly horrible.😉
  19. Rocco's just not that into situational baseball, or defense, for that matter.
  20. Oh, it'll be more than fair if they fire Rocco! Fully understand your point though.
  21. And it's snowing in the two States north of Missouri. Let's all just go back to bed and pretend that the 2025 MLB season didn't start in March, sheeesh!
