They can't afford another 20 million dollar salary. If Miranda continues to hit like he is, then he might be our long term fit at 1b. If they somehow do decide to buy at the deadline, I'd like to see a top tier starter and one or two solid bullpen arms.

But they can!

Where's that little rate topic selection thing?  I'd like to give this some star.

That's only on forum articles, not front page.

Which, IMHO, is backwards from how it should be.

I would trade them Vazquez, Margot, and Farmer to even out the salary. Click “force trade” then turn off my PlayStation with a feeling of accomplishment.

You should do Justin Verlander next!

Why Verlander?  He's AARP eligible.  Might as well shoot for the moon and go for Skenes

Of course the Poland's could afford to add Vald Jr.  He's not the bat he was, but maybe a change of scenery and a different approach gets him back to being one of the most feared RH hitters in baseball.  This is the problem with being a Twins fan...We're not allowed to DREAM.  Of course the Pohlad's would never consider this.  But the frenzy some guys come out with criticizing this article is both sad and laughable.

We come to this site to just "talk baseball."  This is the essence of "Talking BASEBALL!!"  Everything doesn't have to be logical.  Sometimes it can be fun.  Baseball Trade Values has Vlad Jr.'s "Value" at only 8.4.  That's a reflection of his recent disappointing production.  He could actually be had for a lot less than people would expect.  Toronto is reeling this season.  Vlad Jr. and Bo Bichette are NOT living up to expectations.  Dalton Varsho hasn't since he came over in the trade with the D-Backs.

I don't visit Baseball Trade Values much anymore because I refuse to pay for what once was free.  But we should be having fun discussing what it would take to get Vlad and how he could possibly add some juice to our lineup.

Same likelihood that they DFA and option the entire roster after reanimating the corpses of every player on the ‘27 Yankees.

I mean, come on.  They couldn’t even be bothered to spend $5M for a backup CFer, and you think there’s even a remote chance they give up prospect capital and multiple years at over $20M to add a 14th DH/1B to the roster?

It’s just patronizing at this point.

I read the original article and did a head-slap. Would have done a spit-take had I been drinking at the time. Even IF the Jays were looking at some sort of re-build, facing a loss of income due to a bad/expiring TV deal, Guerrero offers enough talent and potential to be worth way more than something like Gonzalez and cash. That's half a bottle of Walker trolling to meet a deadline for SOMETHING to post.

I have had a suspicion for months that the FO has actually had in mind to add payroll to the team for a trade move if it makes sense and fills a need, but NOT $10M and a 2nd season of $20M plus. For instance, I can easily see a pen arm acquired in a trade. Especially since we have no idea if Topa will pitch at all in 2024. And, unfortunately, Stewart MIGHT have to be monitored going forward. BUT, I can also see Duran USED CORRECTLY, and Varland sliding back to the pen for September and beyond. It's also possible that Canterino will be back on the mound the 2nd half and fill a spot in the pen as well. So the pen addition idea is a "sorta" possibility. It becomes a more real possibility if the contract includes a second year on the cheap.

I could also see a quality RH OF bat on an expiring deal to add to the roster. But again, Lewis, Correa, Miranda, Jeffers,Buxton, how important could that bat be with what's on hand unless there is a serious injury or serious regression?

I'm a bit old school when it comes to defense. I appreciate good defense, and want good defense on my team. It helps the pitching staff, and helps avoid second chance opportunities for the opposition.  HOWEVER, at times, good defense simply means making the normal play and just not being a butcher at your position. At the end of the day, offensive plusses override defense generally. The Twins appear to be, or are, plus at catcher, SS, and CF...most days at least...and RF. They've been, generally, fine in LF, 2B, and are pretty strong at the moment at 1B.

While it's not popular to some, 1B is an offense position first and foremost. It just is. You need production, wherever you can find it, but a 1B doesn't have to be Gold Glove worthy to play the spot. He just needs to make the right reads on plays, be able to scoop balls consistently, and hopefully have the eye and decent enough range to snare foul balls. And I know I'm over simplifying the position, and it's great to have a wonderful 1B, but the truth is we aren't talking about SS here.

I have a feeling the Twins next "fixture" at 1B might still be in the minors. But for 2025, it's going to be Miranda, Kirilloff, and Julien. And I'm OK with that. All 3 can, and have, played the position. Experience and work can make all 3 OK defensively. TWO of them are infielders who are "used" to playing in the dirt and handling  ground balls. AK is no stranger to playing 1B. All 3 just need to put in the work to be SOLID at the spot.

That's not only reality, but the POSSIBILITY of being productive at 1B and at least solid at 1B. The prospect cost and financial cost of Guerrero just doesn't fit, even with a "pipe dream" article written with a drunken deadline.

As to the question of what I'd be willing to give up.. Lee Festa and Miranda or Larnach.  That should do it. As to the question of would the Twins be willing to take on the added payroll. NO!

For Vlad Guerrero?? He's a solid player. Hasn't been a great player since his one great year. He's very solid, and could help, but $19.9 million this year and another raise next year? The only reason they should give up anything more than Gabriel Gonzalez (if they even have to do that) is to try to get Toronto to eat some of his salary this year and next.

I think we will make this trade right after we acquire Judge and Soto.

Reminds me of one stanza of a favorite song - Day Dream Believer:

You once thought of me
As a white knight on his steed

Now you know how happy I can be
Oh, and our good times starts and end
Without dollar one to spend
But how much, baby, do we really need

Cheer up, sleepy @mikelink45
Oh what can it mean,
to a day dream believer and a
homecoming queen...

Also, love The Monkees so much. The TV show was great. All of their music is amazing... And, in that song, I loved how it started out with some of the most mundane day-to-day activities:

Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings of the bluebird as she sings.
The six o'clock alarm would never ring.
But it rings, and I rise
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.
My shaving razor's cold, and it stings.

Seriously, a great, popular classic song with a verse thinking what I think every morning... I don't want to get out from under my blankets. The alarm clock (or now alarm photo) noise options are so annoying, so I dread it going off. But it does! Uggh, and after hitting snooze, I eventually do wake up (mostly cuz I have to let the dog out... which answers that music question too). Would much rather go to sleep. So tired! Now granted, I don't shave ever with a razor, but I can imagine it would be cold... and since I take so long in between, there are tons of cuts and nicks, which really sting!

From whats been reported.  Torontos asking price is sky high.  You're not getting Guerrero for Gonzalez.  The Twins aren't going to do the deal anyway. But it would happen if the players I suggested were offered. Ted S asked what I'd give. I told you. Gonzalez. The only piece of the Polanco trade that might have value isn't going to bring much in return. It's all make believe anyway. So since tomorrow the Twins are going for Skenes. I'm giving up Jenkins Lee and Lewis. How do you like that one?

Have you seen the article where people think paying Kepler 20 million next year is a good idea, and while he has been good, he has hasn't been as good as Vlad.

Pass - he has one of those projectable flabby bodies that do not age well.  I give him one or two more All Star years before he turns into a liability.

Kirilloff has 5 HR & 14 XBH total

Santana has 7 HR & 13 XBH total

Guerrero has 5 HR & 15 XBH total

Castro has 4 HR & 19 XBH total

Guerrero has been on a big heater for last, roughly 14 days, and his average has shot up to .295 with a couple of 4 hit games - commendable.

Seems to me he blends right in above with our middle of the pack to lower end guys! Where’s the “thump”?

He’s been criticized all of last year and the first 6-7 weeks of this year for underperforming & inconsistency. Don’t see the attraction and the potential issue signing him after ‘25.
