Things you don't miss in baseball...

  • Pitchers hitting.
  • The 15" mound before 1969
  • Spikes up, barreling into 2nd base
  • Eradicating the catcher with a body block
  • Old Cleveland Stadium. Oh, what a barn.
  • Games broadcast in black and white.
  • Vertical supports in old stadiums that obstructed views.
  • Listening to road games of Buffalo Bisons radio games. Teletype sound in the background and Bill Mazur reading what is occurring because he didn't travel on road games.

I don’t miss guys like Big Mike Pineda huffing and puffing for 50 seconds between every pitch during a game in mid-June.

I don’t miss watching 4 floaters during intentional walks.

I don’t miss Joe West. And I won’t miss Angel Hernandez whenever he hangs it up.

I don't miss having to sort through a stack of different papers and magazines to get any Twins news.

I don't miss scratchy AM radio at night to catch every other word of a Twins game.

I don't miss only being able to see the Twins when I visited family on trips to South Dakota.

I don't miss 3 1/2 hours to watch a game.

  • I don't miss hitters stepping out after every pitch to adjust 27 pieces of equipment, re-velcro their batting gloves, etc.
  • I don't miss pitchers meditating on the mound for an eternity before throwing the ball
  • I don't miss throwing over to 1B eleventy-billion times when anyone with a modicum of speed got to 1B

Not even a little bit? Getting the antenna just right to pick up Herb's voice was a special skill.

Though I would have hated to lose the signal driving in from South Dakota when we picked Darrell Evans(I think?) off of third in the 87 ALDS.

I'll admit that some of the new changes have been good. I also don't miss 25 minute at bats and catchers being destroyed by huge dudes trying to score. It's also nice not to have 2-3 pitching changes to get through an inning with no outs.

I DO miss, however, 10th innings with 0 out and nobody on base and the NL and AL meeting each other for the first time in the World Series. And the Montreal Expos with their confusing poorly designed ELB? EB? EMB? M? logo.

o. Altuve was absolutely the worst about it with 3 adjustments to each glove between every pitch. Must have OCD.
o. And was it Hector Neris for the Astros who did the 3-4 "rock the baby" windup? Took him 15 seconds just to do that portion,.

I can live with the vertical supports at Wrigley. Ticket sales always warned me of "obstructive view." Stayed away from those babies.

Somehow, as a kid, I did not seem to have such a problem with Offermann Stadium in the '50s in Buffalo. Just expected with the $.50/seats.

Nomar Garciapara took his time going through his batting glove adjustment ritual.

They were a mixed bag.  Annoying when in your way, but the 2nd decks were so much closer in some of the old stadiums.  I got to attend a game in old Tiger Stadium before it closed.  We had seats in the 2nd deck of the left field line, but it felt like we were right on top of the action.

I'll never be a Tiger fan, but I did love that old stadium.

I DO miss Sporting News and all the stats I would pour over for an entire afternoon as a kid (I really think it's the memory I miss). Used to stand and wait at the deli for the delivery guy.

I DO miss a memory ability to spit all those stats back out at the end of the week. Just where did that ability go <wide grin>.

I’m really not anti-internet or anti-technology, but I REALLY do miss the Sporting News!

I don’t miss trying to survive on about 1 1/2 quality starting pitchers for the season.
