Joey Votto making his season debut for the Reds tonight.   With him back at first base, Spencer Steer will make his 4th appearance this season in LF.  Outside of the 24 innings he has played there this season, he had exactly one game in the OF in his minor league career.  Curious to see how this works out.

Meanwhile, Brent Rooker's batting average and OBP keeps dropping in Oakland, and Gary Sanchez is now hitting below .200 for the Padres. The Twins need bats, but not sure if even guys like that could help matters at this point.

Not sure how Rooker makes it over Esteury Ruiz. 12 fewer HR's but Ruiz has 42 SB and 20 pt higher BA. Otherwise the rest of their stats are close enough to be a push. But have for Brent.

I would have chosen Ruiz too, but as you noted, Rooker's home run total was probably what got him the nod. Hard to pick a player from a dismal Oakland team this year, but it's still cool that Rooker made it this far.

Thinking about ex-Twins, what is the current status of Chris Archer? Unless I missed it, he's not pitching for anyone this year.

For some reason I thought he was down in Miami at some point in time?

Not sure, I don't recall reading anything about him at all this season, which is why I was wondering if he was playing anywhere, even in Japan, this year.

What do people think will happen to Nelson Cruz at this point? Is he finished, or will another team give him a shot this season?

Good question.

His number were not that bad, although Ks were up.

It seems the day he was traded from the Twins, his fire went out.

The Mariners announced a few roster moves prior to tonight’s game, selecting the contract of right-hander Devin Sweet and recalling fellow righty Prelander Berroa, with both players set to make their respective major league debuts as soon as they get into a game.

Berroa is the first - and probably only - prospect from the Sam Dyson trade to reach the majors. He was traded to the Mariners last year for Donovan Walton.

Didn't Jaylin Davis get traded for Dyson, as well? He had a minute or two in the majors IIRC.

Correct, I forgot about him, I thought the other two players traded were international teenagers. Davis has 95 PAs between 2019-2021 coming in at .203 / .573 OPS. I do remember some being upset that he wasn't promoted after demolishing AAA. Looks like he's at the Mets AAA affiliate with a middling triple slash line with a pretty high strikeout rate.

The Reds have a lot of youth in their lineup and have another hot rookie coming up. Let's see how well CES converts his AAA dominance to the majors.

It's only a handful of games so far, but Encarnacion-Strand has already homered and batting over .300. I know, I know; small sample size, but I think he's going to be a keeper for the Reds.

Trey Cabbage had his first HR last night.

Great to see that. He was in the starting lineup for the Angels every game over the weekend, but that homer was the obvious highlight for him.

Josh Donaldson has a torn right calf and could miss the rest of the season.

He would finish his Yankees career having hit just .207/.293/.385 while missing 159 of a possible 324 games and getting paid $51.5 million. Donaldson will be a 38-year-old free agent this offseason.

Thank you Cash($)man.

Sanchez. Had the Detroit/Padres game on radio. Sanchez catching for SD. Hitting .180.

Yeah, his average his dipped quite a bit, but he's had a few timely homers for San Diego in his short time there. But man, what a black hole catching has become for the Padres.
