Celestino to Pirates on Minor League deal

Good for him. He might end up making the MLB team to start the season.

Kyle Gibson is going to St. Louis (1 year deal). I believe Kyle has Missouri connections. Kind of surprised he only got a one-year contract.

The St. Lous Cardinals rotation now features: Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson. They love former Twins pitchers!

Nelson Cruz signed with Dodgers as an advisor.

Dodgers To Hire Nelson Cruz as Advisor - MLB Trade Rumors

Interesting hire for the Dodgers as they are NOT one of the many teams he played for during his career. I wonder what the connection is there.

I was puzzled too. Maybe someone in the front office knew him from a previous team? But honestly, no idea of what sort of connection prompted that signing. Sounds like he might be based more in the DR to oversee operations there.

OK, this one's a bit late, but just by happenstance I noticed that Michael Tonkin threw more innings out of the Atlanta pen than any other reliever. Heck, he was actually 4th on the team in innings, starters included. He wasn't particularly exceptional, but must have been good enough to keep giving him the ball. Hadn't pitched in the majors since 2017 and he averaged nearly 2 innings per outing despite him not starting a single game at any level or any league since 2011.

Just a weird one that I thought I'd share.

Weird, but interesting. Thanks for digging that stat up. Never would have guessed that he pitched that many innings last year for Atlanta, and quite effectively after such a long hiatus. Baseball: what a weirdly wonderful sport!

Another minor league signing...

Tyler Duffey has signed with the Royals after pitching 2 innings for the Cubs last year. Much maligned, but I feel like he had some good moments with the Twins.

That would be cool if Duffy makes the Royals and has a good season. Best of luck to him.

Dylan Floro also got a major league contract (from the Nationals).

That was surprising... but I guess it's another example of a team thinking a pitcher with a high ERA will regress to the FIP.

Regress back to what he was before 2023. Even then a Quick Look at Washington had for a bullpen last year Floro would be an upgrade. 2.25 million with incentives

The Dodgers keep hiring our old friends to their coaching staff!

I was wondering what had happened to Archer. I always liked him as a player and personality. I think this will give him a good second career in baseball.

Darn it, those Ham Fighters are signing all the good free agents!

This will be a great opportunity.  He has skills, now to get to learn from McCutcheon could set him up to be the starter in CF for a long time in Pitt.

Former Twins 2nd round draft pick Nick Burdi has signed a minor league deal with the Yankees.

Yankees, Nick Burdi Agree To Minor League Deal - MLB Trade Rumors

Nick topped out at AA with the Twins before seeing MLB time with Pittsburgh 2018-2020 and 3 innings for the Cubs in 2023.

Good to see that Burdi is still hanging around. Never say never, right?

Interesting. Waddell pitched a few innings for the Twins in 2021, while Burdi never pitched in a Twins major league game.

Not being critical—it is just ironic

Twins should have grabbed him in a utility FO position. Announcer, articulate, could do great color on a broadcast. Public relations. Minor league pitching coach. Really enjoyed every interview I ever heard with him.

I agree. I also enjoyed hearing Archer talk after games, or in other interviews. Very bright and personable player.
