Fernando Abad has signed a minor league contract with the Brewers. He last pitched in the MLB earlier this year with Colorado.

Abad pitched in 39 games for the Twins in 2016 going 1-4 with a 2.65 ERA.

Left-handed relievers stick around for a loooong time.

Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is still using Zack Littell as a starting pitcher. He hasn't been lights out, but holding his own in that role thus far. Somehow, the Rays keep finding ways to get the most out of their players.

The Mets have signed slugger Daniel Palka to a minor league contract.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/08/mets-sign-daniel-palka-to-minor-league-deal.html

Palka played in the Twins system during the 2016-1017 seasons but was never called up. He later did see some time in MLB with the White Sox where he hit 27 homers in 2018 but could not get much going the next year and has been in the minors since.

Arraez second half numbers are pretty woooof.

Still rooting for Luis but this is why I loved the trade

He sadly has knees that havent proven to hold up for a full season and his offense(with lack of D) is dependent on absurdly high average to even be a top 15 OPS because there is zero slug.

Saw an interesting stat

50 game batting average stretch

Betts .400 average with a .769 slug

Arraez .399 avergae with a .492 slug

Kyle Barracalaugh has given up 10 runs, 10 hits, and 5 walks tonight for BOS.

the pitching staff, coaches, front office, whoever, better pass around a collection plate and give Kyle a few extra dollars for having him absolutely take one for the team

I noticed Altuve hit for the cycle and wondered if perhaps he got all four hits off Barraclough (he didn’t). It got me to thinking, who is the last pitcher to surrender a cycle in a single game? Has to be rarer than hitting for the cycle.

He even pitched another inning after I posted but didn't give up any more runs.

The Royals are calling up Steven Cruz, of whom they got in the Michael Taylor trade. He had some good numbers in AA, but has struggled at AAA so far.

Man, I had forgotten all about Palka after his brief time with the White Sox. Thanks for the update.

Yeah, we have nothing to show for it, and it still looks good!

Not a lot but we got a fair amount of value from Urshela and Sanchez for a year and Hidalgo has a chance of making it to the big leagues.  Heck, they can sign a pretty good BP arm for the buy-out they won't have to pay next year.

I was thinking more in terms of this year's roster, but yeah, Urshela was especially good value last year, and Sanchez did an average job (although he seems to be doing better in San Diego this year). But I don't remember Hidalgo at all. Which level is he currently playing at?

Cedar Rapids.  He is ranked as our #28 prospect on MLB.com.

Have the A's/Angels on MLB.com TV.
Rooker hit a two-run bomb, pushing his OPS to .800.

Also love the circus like atmosphere of Oak-Alameda stadium and the "open" bullpen, where the BP is right on the playing surface.

Escobar is pinch hitting for the Angels. Hitting .231.

Trevor May closed against Angels. Stats here: https://www.mlb.com/player/trevor-may-543507

Kennys Vargas? Gone but playing.

Hitting .297/.917 for Guadalajara in the Mexican League.

Hey, give the guy credit for still playing. He could end up back in the majors before it's all over.

Sounds like a guy born to be a Met.  Welcome aboard the sinking ship Mr Palka.  Grab a bucket.
