Yeah, we have nothing to show for it, and it still looks good!

We have no money going towards his contract on this season which is a big help with our mid level at best payroll at an all-time high around 150 million I think.  It allowed us to sign the GIDP champ (ok I am still happy we signed Correa).
but the Yankees also have a potential back up C too from that trade that would have made a nice third string C here…..

Remember Sawyer Gipson-Long? He was the minor league pitcher that the Twins traded to Detroit at the deadline last year for Michael Fulmer. Well, yesterday Gipson-Long made his MLB debut with the Tigers and got the win. He pitched 5 innings, gave  up 4 hits and 2 runs, and struck out 5. Not a bad start.

Airmail Eddie is hitting .265 for the year, .801 OPS, and .324 for last 30 days.

He seems to be clicking, rather than fading for the Braves down the stretch this year. I always liked his energy, but I'm surprised that he's still relatively productive at this point in his career.

Rosario is one of those ballplayers you love or gasp at. For me, his erratic defensive playing (particularly throwing to wrong base or bypassing/missing the cutoff man) drove me nuts.
Base running was always a pleasure from hell as well (winks). He needed a change of scenery and Cleve didn't work. He seems to have settled down in Atlanta.

So much for LLynn helping the Dodgers.

Have the game on radio...

Listened to the Dodgers whip up on the Padres 11-2.

Lynn won his 11th (11-11, 5.94) but he served up his 41st meatball of the year, this time to Tatis.

41.. He is chasing Bert's record of 50. Bert did it in 271 innings; Lynn is at 166. Ratios:
Lynn, .25, Blyleven, .18 or
Lynn, 2.25 per 9 inn, 1.62/9

It's late. Hope I did my public math right.

Sanchez down.

Padres catcher Gary Sánchez broke his right wrist during this afternoon’s loss to the Phillies; Sánchez was hit by a 98 MPH fastball from Philadelphia reliever Jeff Hoffman. The pitch ran inside and caught Sánchez’s back wrist when he checked his swing.

I was wondering why he wasn't in the Padres lineup the past few days. Tough break ... and no pun intended.

A similar transaction to the one above--Chi Chi González had his contract acquired by the Marlins for the second time this year.

González, Devin Smeltzer, Tommy Milone and Dereck Rodriguez are examples of pitchers getting their service time a couple days at a time. All have been DFAed multiple times, accepted assignments at Triple A and then return. They might change organizations, but continue in this borderline existence.

its wild that in the year 2023 Tommy Milone recieved a MLB salary. Good for him, but still wild.

Dereck Rodriguez has had his contract selected by Atlanta. I believe this is his 50th time being recalled/purchased.

Rough outing for Dereck with the Braves yesterday; 2 IP and he gave up 8 runs (2 home runs, but at least NOT the Jazz Chisholm grand slam) and walking 3 batters. Ouch!

It was so rough Dereck has been....

Wait for it.....

DFA'd.

Over in Gotham City, Ben Rortvedt started at catcher for the Yankees, but went hitless, dropping his BA to a paltry .109. But the Yankees, with Cole pitching,  got the win. The Blue Jays and ex-Twin Jose Berrios got the loss.

There was a lot of angst on this site when the Twins traded Rortvedt.  Unfortunately he isn't even coming close to Drew Butera level offense.  Still young enough to improve, but I'm starting to doubt he will ever hit enough to even be a backup MLB catcher.

Kirk Gibson won his 15th game for Baltimore yesterday, but his ERA is still a bit high at 4.86. Compare that with Sonny Gray, who has pitched much better, but won't even get 10 wins this year. Run support matters.

Kyle Gibson, one of my favorite ex-Twins.

Apparently he is able to stay healthy

He has a total of 23 Big Show hits, but 5 of them are home runs, may not hit often but hits it pretty far, at that; his defense is incredibly good.

He would make a good Twins third catcher for when they absolutely need defense.

Jorge López was DFAed by the Orioles. He pitched for three playoff teams this year and couldn’t stick with any of them.

There is talent there, but so far he’s only been able to harness it for half a season. One of our frequent posters is acquainted with him and says he’s a good guy, so best wishes to him.

The DFA'd him this week? I missed that. Yikes, bad timing, seeing as how they just lost their closer Bautista to TJ surgery this week too. And the last box score I saw, Lopez had pitched 1.2 scoreless and hitless innings. Baseball is a weird game, and often heartbreaking.
