Steve Lein Twins Daily Contributor Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 After Correa's signing, I have to believe there is a trade for a pitcher coming. While I don't like the idea of trading Luis Arraez, I think it makes too much sense now. Mine to start: Luis Arraez Max Kepler Jordan Balazovic/etc... for Edward Cabrera Dax Fulton I don't want the two years of Pablo Lopez, especially if Arraez is the cost, but you do you!
ashbury Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 If you can turn position players into two legitimate pitchers by trade, you do it. I'm considering Jordy Blaze to be sweetener fodder at this point.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Fangraphs is down, so hard for me to say which pitcher I want, but I also would prefer someone with more than two years of control....
Twins GFP Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Edward Cabrera, Dax Fulton, Pablo Lopez for Danny Coulombe This would be a pretty solid trade for the Twins. Can't speak for the Marlins though...
MGX Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 To Marlins: Trevor Larnach, Caleb Thielbar & Jordan Balazovic To Twins: Bryan De La Cruz & Edward Cabrera

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Edward Cabrera For Luis Arraez Josh Winder Matt Wallner I'm interested in Rogers and Luzardo as well. Lopez would be fine, but only if his asking price is surprisingly low; they need long term pitchers. And I can't imagine the Marlins having interest in Kepler.
tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I have been irritatingly consistent about the Twins finding a way to acquire Edward Cabrera. I also like Dax Fulton and some of the others, but an expanded trade should aim for Jesus Luzardo. What does Miami get in return? Offer Arraez or Miranda, Larnach or Kirilloff or Kepler, Winder, and Pagan. Does Celestino have value for Miami? Martin? Miami should find a trade that brings in Miranda, Larnach, Martin, and Winder for Cabrera and Luzardo worth consideration.
terrydactyls Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I looked around the internet for information about where the Marlins have weaknesses and the consensus is OF and 1B. (They only have one outfielder that hit over .225 in 2022. Kind of makes Kepler more interesting, eh?). So I propose Arraez, Kepler, Larnach, Balazovic, and Gordon for Cabrera or Luzardo, and Fulton. Then bring back Fulmer to confuse people and the off-season is over.
chpettit19 Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I think Miami is trying to win now. They only have these starters for so long. They can't sit back and wait for Atlanta (and their ever growing list of stars locked up for the next decade), Philly, and the Mets (with Cohen's money) to suddenly all suck in the next few years before their starters start getting expensive and leaving. So I do think they'd find value in Kepler. Not a ton of value, but I think he'd be someone they'd accept back in trade. They are an interesting team to even deal young guys to, though. They have a number of young, former/current top prospects on their 40-man already. It may actually mean they prefer veterans. Kepler, Arraez, Polanco types. JJ Bleday is their version of Larnach. Groshans is their Miranda. Edwards is their Martin. The question is how much more would/do the Marlins value any of our MLB-ready prospects compared to their own. I'd think Arraez would be their #1 target from MN. Then maybe Kepler depending on their belief on what he can really be for the rest of his contract. They're in an interesting spot.

CoasterProductions Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I would totally make a deal for marlons pitching but there are two names I am not giving up at all that I keep seeing in these proposals. Arraez and Miranda this is my proposal Twins get: Pablo Lopez and Edward Cabrera Marlins get: Kepler, Kirilloff, Pagan, Thielbar The twins then sign Profar to replace Kirilloff and trade Bailey Ober to the Pirates for David Bednar. Sign Andrew Chafin and Michael Fulmer back and that is my rest of twins off-season . (This is an extremely outdated thing)

According to my baseball knowledge/common sense, the phone gets hung up before you finish the sentence.

Those of us who include either Miranda or Arraez in any trade ideas are huge fans of both Twins guys too. The idea is to ask yourself what Miami would accept or ask for from the Twins in exchange for their players. There is a disagreement, to be sure, about the value of any of Lopez, Cabrera, Luzardo, or Fulton and no player is guaranteed to star. Arraez is the closest player of any to a sure thing. Still, the Twins have a glut of corner players and could use a starting pitcher with upside. I believe that both Pablo Lopez and Edward Cabrera would be better than any of the Twins current starters. I am hoping the Twins acquire Cabrera, and wishing they add Jesus Luzardo on in a larger deal. Trades are toughest when trying to gain both talent and years, So I suggest the Twins gamble in a massive trade. If the Twins can get Cabrera without losing Miranda or Arraez, great. Miami wants to compete now and thus they are looking hard at who gives them the best bats. Arraez just won an AL batting title which is an attention getter. Kepler and Polanco are great players with less years of control and more cost, so some combination of now and ready players is what Miami needs and the Twins need a guy like Cabrera.

TyCobb367 Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Seems everyone is undervaluing Cabrera in these scenarios. I don’t think they’re looking to trade him and his 4 years of team control. I see him as a potential ace, and Alcantara and him are real close friends. Those two could be the best 1-2 in a couple years. I have no interest in Lopez and his two years of control until he get way overpaid! I’m going Eury Perez. Perez for Kepler and Larnach would be my initial offer.

You can decide not to want to move Arraez or Miranda, but you have to give up something of value to get even one of these pitchers.

BK432 Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 The price for Cabrera will rightfully be steep. Pablo is more likely for this reason. I realize fans want a guy locked up longer than 2 years, but trading for Lopez is much more likely. It's the kind of trade the Twins have already made. I could see: Pablo Lopez for Luis Arraez Max Kepler David Festa

From reading various sites both national and local the Marlins seem to have voiced a clear veto on any discussions of Alcantara and Perez. Miami wants a ton for any of Lopez, Cabrera, and Luzardo as well. While I agree that Cabrera has enormous upside, the Marlins have indicated that a bat that works could be the ticket for him. An AL batting title is a worthy match for Cabrera. In any event, the Twins and Marlins are a decent match and I'm hoping for a deal between them. Some combination of players should work. Let's focus on a deal for Cabrera and hope to widen the deal to include Luzardo.

I saw a Miami paper saying much the same earlier this offseason. Again, every article has stated that Eury Perez and Sandy Alcantara are NOT available.
CoasterProductions Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I have come up with a new proposal that I ran through BTV and was accepted. Edward Cabrera and Pablo Lopez for Kirilloff, Kepler, Martin, Lewis, and Hidalgo Thoughts?
Chaz1966 Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I like Lopez and his 2 yrs of control. If things don't work we can move him at deadline in yr 2 for prospects as we' will need to restock minors. Marlins get; Kepler Arraez Ober, or maybe our 2nd rnd pick in this years draft. Twins get; Lopez

Oh man, as much as that would be painful for our offense at the moment. Our pitching would be changed for a very long time. I wonder what Miami's reaction to seeing that proposal would be.
BSLinPA Verified Member Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I get that no one is untouchable except the "new guy" with the no trade clause, but i dont see Miranda going anywhere after all the bro love expressed by Correa.
chpettit19 Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 An interesting way to look at this is "would you trade Luis Arraez + others for 2 years of Joe Ryan?" Ryan missed time last year due to covid, not some arm injury or anything, but otherwise he was was pretty close in everything to Lopez. Lopez averaged 5.6 innings per start (180 innings, 32 starts), Ryan was at 5.4 (147 innings, 27 starts). Lopez 3.75 ERA, Ryan 3.55. Lopez 8.7 SO9, Ryan 9.2. I don't see any reason to believe Lopez would be our #1, let alone "a #1." He's no ace. I'm not giving up more than Arraez for him, and I'm not sure I'd even give up that much. Kepler and Nowlin for Lopez.
