13 year, $350 mil

AAV only 27M, but 13 years wow.

Really makes me wonder what the Twins offer was.

Stole this from Reddit but....a kid that's 8 years old will be able to have a beer when his contact is up.

I mean it would have been cool to have Correa back, but I'm kind of glad that the Twins don't have him for the next 13 years.  Im really hoping that Royce Lewis comes through once he is healthy.  Get a placeholder, until Lewis is ready.  He seemed to do well last year until he got hurt.  Now spend some money on a pitcher or two.

Correa & the SF Giants visit Minnesota on May 22-24.

Guaranteed $$$ until he's 41 yrs old, he may not even be on the field by the end of this contract

I Think the Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla

Front load that baby and may not be as bad at the end. Or try what the twins did with shorter term, but they needed much more per year than 28.5 at the shorter term.

Can’t see how you can trade Arraez for pitching now. Last years lineup was painful enough at times, remove Correa and Arraez? Yuck.

Agree. Arraez stays

So what? That's better than ten years 350...... Much better. They can just cut him after eight or ten years.

Well, that sucks. They had the money, chose not to spend it here. I think I'd bliw the team up now.

Front loading is a terrible idea. Money will be worth about forty percent or less in that many years, than it is now. You always want to pay more later.

I don't know if you can just cut him after 8 years and just be okay with it.   That's paying out $150M for him not to play..... which isn't exactly a small write off for most teams.

No opts out and a full no trade clause as well.  Slice it up any way you want, this is an insane contract.  As much as I wanted Correa back, I am positive the Twins can bring more value to the team with that money than Correa could/will alone.

If they were to spend all the hypothetical Correa money(which I'm highly skeptical will happen,) the Twins might come out ahead in terms of total WAR or something in that vein, but as far as impact is concerned, I don't think they'll come close.

FTFY

i still think Correa was worth the 350 mil. The length of the contract is just the way to spread the money to make it work for the team cash flow.

I understand why the Twins didn’t match or beat that, but I’m still disappointed

I think most of us knew 350 was the number . As others have stated the 13 yrs was a way to keep the aav low so they can be more competitive while he’s under contract.

like it or not this is how contracts with top players work. Twins offer wasn’t close and was embarrassing given how confident they seemed. And now most of the impact FAs are gone because the twins were tunnel visioned on Correa. The rest of the quality talent won’t be any cheaper based on the value the twins have given them.

They offered less money that Turner got and really thought they had a chance? This FO is clueless

likely the only way to improve this team now is through trades or addition by subtraction. Weak farm system likely to get weaker or they sit and do nothing and lose even more fan support

I’m not mad. I think we dodged a financial burden by not signing him.  The biggest impact is that we don’t have a proven SS on contract and we need to move fast to grab someone.

Agreed.

I would not like the idea of paying him until he is 41. I was hoping they could resign him, but that is way too many years.

If you are the Twins you had to know that to get Correa you were going to have to make him the highest paid shortstop in the sport.  Anything under 300M would have been a slap in the face IMO.  I can see why this dragged out now.  He might have wanted to come back to Minnesota and waited to see if they would move off that number but they didn't.  So off to San Fran who did what needed to be done.

Technically I was fine with however this played out.  Correa would have really helped this team especially by plugging the hole at short for the next 6 years or so.  He also might have hamstrung this team from other moves as well. Given how poorly the team did with him he wasn't the "difference maker" I was hoping he would be. Also as he aged the last few years of that contract were likely to get ugly.

If the Twins would have offered him 10\350 I am not sure the value would be there and still there was and probably never will be a player they could have felt this comfortable taking a chance on.  Positive club house guy always interested in doing the right things for himself and his teammates.  Pretty much rock solid numbers through his career. Maybe value isn't everything though as we are seeing other clubs look past it to try and field playoff type teams.  So far no one in the central has offered that large a contract to a player yet so I guess they are not alone in that regard.

Given what happened last year I don't think this is a make or break deal but I am a little disappointed the Twins didn't offer at least a 300M contract.  IMO They were never "really" in this thing despite the reports.
