akmanak Verified Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Doesnt take long for teams to figure out the simplistic nature of this team when it comes to pitching. The Detroit series is prime example.

With managment making any type of changes to our pitches staff it is inevitable that we start to severely drop up just like previous years. With the current pitchers we dont even win the division.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 OMG! I EXPLICITLY TOLD THE PEOPLE IN TODAY'S THREAD TO TELL BROCK NOT TO PANIC! I CAN'T EVEN CAPITALIZE "NOT" BECAUSE IT IS ALREADY CAPITALIZED! CAN YOU DOUBLE CAPITALIZE? IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? WHAT'S NEXT? BOLD TEXT? COLORED TEXT? ITALICIZED TEXT? AND DOES THAT EVEN COUNT? I FOUND THE STENGTH TO PANIC FOR BLOCK'S PANIC...BUT I Am LOSing STrength To help him. Please, someone reach out. 1-800-TWI-NSOK. Callers are standing by to help!

Wildvikestwins Provisional Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 The good: We have current young players that play the same positions as our top prospects and Lewis Diaz is breaking out as another 1B. The bad: Really good starting pitchers and relievers cost an arm and a leg. Examples being Gleybar Torres for Chapman and Francisco Mejia for Brad Hand. We could have covered Closer or SP by paying Kimbrel or Keuhcel. Now there’s a good chance we’re missing at least 2 of Lewis, Kirilloff, Brusdar, Balazovic, and Larnach going into next year to cover our major weaknesses. I’d have a really hard time seeing this current team beating the Astros or Yankees in the playoffs.

Not considering any trades, Berrios, Odorizzi, Gibson/Perez are capable of keeping teams in check. This offense can explode for a 4-5 run inning at any time against anyone. As we’ve seen, even when not playing great, it’s nearly impossible to take 2 or 3 in a row from this team. I’m not saying they will or should. I actually think it’s probably the Yankees’ year. They’re matching us stride for stride without Judge, Stanton, Gregorious, Hicks (for much of the season), Andujar, Betances, Severino....basically their entire team from recent years. They’ll all be back and fresh down the stretch. But, the Twins are now certainly capable of winning multiple series in the playoffs. Add two high quality bullpen arms to go with Rogers and I’d feel pretty good about playing anyone.

Dman Verified Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 Well if you really want to panic take a look at the Indians schedule from here on out. It is much easier that Twins. They can easily make up 11 games with that easy schedule.

Dman Verified Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 IT COULD HAPPEN WITH OUR SHAKY BULLPEN. THE COLLAPSE WOULD BE YUGE. Always some truth in the sarcasm you know. You don't have to tell me as I have already thought about it. How about the year the Twins caught Detroit. Teams can always be reeled in. For now though I am enjoying the ride. I haven't had this much fun watching this team ever.

ashbury Verified Member Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 TWINS HAVE GONE ICE COLD, WITH NO WIN TODAY, I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE LAST TIME THEY WON - SOMETIME IN 2017 MAYBE?
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 Not that it matters to anyone but me, but the original "Panic" which came during that 11-run loss turned me off to commenting on the Game Thread. I saw how ugly people can be when they expect to win every day. I'll be reading posts on occasion but no longer participating in Game Threads. Best to all, and Go Twins!

mini_tb Verified Member Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 I have one of those coworkers we probably all have. Game 1 out of 162 was a must win, or the season was over. I tried to no avail to talk him off the ridiculous ledge. Luckily, the Twins passed the test. Game 3 against Cleveland was a must win because the difference betwen an 8 1/2 and a 10 1/2 game lead is huge (more than 2 games?). Test passed. If you would like, I can check with him when we need to panic more than usual. This opening game against the freefalling Mariners after an off day does seem like a good time to panic. If they don't come out of the off day ready to put the hurt on, it could be an obvious sign the team is getting lackadaisical and will be in second place by the end of June.
