What better time is there to bring in Taylor Rogers than with the bases loaded in a one run game?

With a left handed batter up to bat, no less.

You have to start getting him ready before the full bases though. Do you get him up every time that might happen in a game? That would be a lot of ups and downs. I am not sure that would be good long term.

I don't really blame Baldelli there.....other than I'd have taken out Odo sooner.......He can't burn out the bullpen in early April. IMO, this is partly on the FO for the choices they've given him. The last manager burned out the bulllpen .....

Well, this was the perfect situation for a LOOGY to get a big out, the problem is that he forgot how to throw strikes. Now they certainly need long reliever(s).

situationally it was perfect for Moya... but that’s not an option now is it?

Look, I think we all knew there would be some bad innings early from this BP until we found some guys. Time to get that shuttle up and running. Vasquez and DeJong, no. Who's next?

If this weren't mid-april I'd love to see them start clearing some of these guys out of the system, but it's a bit early for that unfortunately.

If they bring up Duffy I'll vomit.

I'd rather have seen Duffey over Vasquez this evening.

I don’t know what schedule Kohl Stewart is on, but he might have been a better option here tonight. Or Perez. I’m surprised they were not piggybacking Perez on Odorizzi, actually.

In the fog of chaos we're in right now, this might be the most logical and wisest council spoken tonight.  Congratulations, when we start managing the game through Game Thread input tomorrow you will be managing the bullpen.

Nice work.

I was going to save the other half of this bottle of wine.

Funny, I just said that about this bottle of Scotch.

I'm not sure what you're trying to debate here. He was clearly planning on taking Odorizzi out. He very easily could have said get Rogers up instead of Vazquez. It's not like Vazquez created the issue. He just extended it

I"m not ready to give up on Vasquez, but I sure wouldn't put him into that situation! All on Rocco the Rookie.

As has been mentioned, the pen has been heavily used this road trip, which is why a fresh arm was brought up.

Vasquez has control issues, according to Bremer, as in he's hit and walked batters in past appearances.

I get hitting one guy but being completely unable to throw strikes? Not sure this kid is going to make it.

I was thinking it was a bit late for that.

Agreed, but isn't that a sad thought though? They're both such overwhelming, game changing pitchers.  They strike the fear into all hitters.

It also looks like he was planning to use Perez in this game, but wanted to pinch hit for the pitcher’s position in the next half inning. So he didn’t go to Perez.

Probably wanted him to start an inning too.

Having 3 supposed BP pitchers go on the DL in Magill, Moya and Reed really exposes the lack of BP depth we have. I say the MLB club is the most important. If Stewart is the best remaining pitcher we have, call him up and see if he can throw in relief.

If you are thinking that those three are going to be helpful anyway...... I have a flying monkey to sell you.

Fifth inning was just as tough to take in person as I'm sure it was on TV.

With the wind blowing in... Just throw strikes!

Tonight is the clearest example I can remember of a team completely giving the game away. The Mets hitters did little to win other than stand still in the batter's box.

Dumb. At this point in a close game, you can let Perez hit once. Of course, now it's not a close game any more.

Here's something you don't see everyday - Vasquez' line in the box score - 0 IP, 0 Hits, 3 Runs, 3 ERs, 13 pitches, 2 strikes, ERA - INF. To Infinity and back to Rochester?!  Or beyond?!

Don't forget the 3/3 inherited runners scored! That almost evens out the 3/3 of those runs you speak of that Hildenberger let in for him.

Except you've got your prescription filled already...you're prescription for more cowbell!

Nice work.

I am detecting sarcasm, but I will give you a straight answer.

On second thought no I won’t. Message me private and we’ll arrange to meet up at a bar and play “real time vs. second-guess” bingo during a game sometime. :)

Hot take: Not hyperbole, Baldelli (or the person that ultimately called for Vasquez) should be fired.  Bringing in Vasquez in a 1-0 game with the bases loaded is the football equivalent of running the ball up the middle down 6 on your own 45 with 0:02 left.

Hi, my name in Taylor Rogers and I am one of the most dominant, if not the most dominant, left handed pitcher in all of baseball.  Instead, we brought in the guy with an MLB WHIP of 2.00 and AAA WHIP of 1.714.  Shockingly, he did not get the out.

OH AND DID I MENTION THAT ROGERS DIDN'T PITCH LAST NIGHT AND TOMORROW IS AN OFF DAY.

This was malpractice of the most serious degree.

Then what is your plan for the 7th and 8th?

It all comes back to not having enough MLB relievers when the season started. Ryne Harper is a great “story”? That was the company line all spring. It doesn’t help unless he’s good enough to get big outs. So far, he has not been asked to do so. Mejia is showing he isn’t ready for big outs either. So, like the last decade, the Twins have 3 guys they can count on in the pen. That’s 3 too few.
