twinssporto Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 For the love of baseball! This sucks!!
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 It's almost comical. Almost.
Tibs Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 This is 25% on Baldelli and 75% on Falvine for ignoring the most glaring weakness any club could possibly have the entire offseasonTaylor Rogers and Trevor May still exist, right?
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Never. Seen. Anything. Like. This.
bighat Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Hey, at least the bases aren't loaded any more! And just like that the game's over. I guess we can just laugh and put this one behind us and hope for better play in the future. On the plus side, I hope this game at least stems some kind of bullpen/pitching shakeup. Keuchel? Kimbrel? Might be time to make that call before we give away more games like this.
twins_89 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Twins have had some brutal innings this road trip. Odorizzi's failed start in Philly, De Jong's 9th last night, and tonight's Odorizzi/Vasquez/Hildenberg implosion.
Dman Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 How can pitchers not know how to throw strikes? Unbelievable!!!
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Trevor Hildenberger sure looks like that "proven commodity". Oh wait, I was wearing Ted S' glasses.
John Kelsey Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Vasquez down to AAA after this game? Who else is on the 40 man that can come up for relief? Romero or Duffey I suppose.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 The first pitch to McNeil was a ball too.... got a break finally. Hildenberger back to letting in inherited runners... 3/3 today.
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 If we aren’t getting strikes when pitches are on the black there is no choice but pitch more in the center of the plate. Pitch to contact or get the pitches on the edges called strikes.
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Maybe. But he looks in over his head so far.I know it was historically bad, ugly beyond words, high-school style pitching, ineptitude all around, but suddenly it's over, and on to the next inning ... the next next.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 For the record, the Blue Jays had a horrible performance like this against the Twins in 2014. But this was baaaaaad...
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Taylor Rogers and Trevor May still exist, right?Your plan would have been to bring one of them into the 5th inning?
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 At least Cruz will get to bat tonight! #silverlinings
ScrapTheNickname Provisional Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Scintillating game we've got going here.It did bring out the comments though.
Blake Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 I've always liked baseball because inevitably I see something I've never seen before. In this case, I could have gone my whole life without seeing that.
twinssporto Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Vasquez down to AAA after this game? Who else is on the 40 man that can come up for relief?I wouldn't bring that kid back at all. Might as well bring up Graterol.
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Love it! Morneau comparing them to rookie ballers. Stick it to 'em Morneau! They deserve it!
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Rocco's bullpen decisions so far this season = not good. I get the Vasquez question, but I would like to point out. Through the first 10 games here, there has been 3 starts 6 innings or longer. The bullpen has pitched more innings than the rotation. Baldelli has put the rookies in bad situations because the pen is already getting gassed and there’s been how many off days? Baffled Falvey didn’t bring up another long reliever instead of a LOOGY.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 It did bring out the comments though.Thats what I was thinking And that’s a good thing!
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Your plan would have been to bring one of them into the 5th inning? YES! In a game like this? Definately. Never would have brought in Vasquez. Bring in the savers when the game needs saved. Absolutely.
twinssporto Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Romero or Duffey I suppose. If they bring up Duffy I'll vomit.
Tibs Verified Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Your plan would have been to bring one of them into the 5th inning? What better time is there to bring in Taylor Rogers than with the bases loaded in a one run game? With a left handed batter up to bat, no less.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 It will be interesting to see if Vasquez gets sent back down after tonight. He clearly wasn't ready to pitch in the Bigs tonight. What about Mike Morin, Preston Guilmet or even Kohl Stewart? It was Baldy that put him in! He should know better. We all do!
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Well, that was embarrassing. Sure, Baldelli probably shouldn't have went to Vasquez at this point, but Odorizzi and Hildenberger also forgot how to throw strikes, and it's on the pitchers to at least be able to throw pitches across the plate. I had referred to a lack of bullpen depth before Opening Day, noting that there weren't many guys worth calling up. We could desperately use a few more arms (though we'll likely be getting Reed/McGill/Moya back at some point in the future).

I’m surprised they were not piggybacking Perez on Odorizzi, actually.

Now they certainly need long reliever(s).
