Greg Holland

Looks like he signed a one-year deal with Arizona for $3.25M guaranteed, with up to $3.5M more in incentives.

I would've much rather had the Twins take a shot on a bounce-back season from Holland than the $3.5M they spent on the medium-risk, low upside move of Martin Perez.

Yes I know he was bad with the Cardinals last year, but he was pretty solid with Washington.

Speaking of Perez, the Twins have now announced the signing. I was hoping something might change.

Who does lose his 40 man spot? Duffey, Magill or Granite?

I saw Shawn Kelley signed with the Rangers for $2.5M, which would have been a similar move that would have worked well. Holland is fine, but his BB/9 is very high and his pitching was so poor with the Cardinals... not sure I'd like to take that risk.

It turns out Chase DeJong is the DFA'd

That surprises me. Apparently Duffey obtained the lucky horseshoe when Belisle bounced.

What a great return for Zach Duke. Someone who's DFA'd within a calendar year of the trade.

We traded Zach Duke plus cash for Martin Perez and a low-minors 1Bman. :)

But but, we were told they were filling the minors.......already DFA. Nice trade.

Falvine gets patted on the back no matter what. Great FA sign in Duke. Even greater trade to pick up DeJong and finally a great sign in Perez when his other acquisitions really didn't turn out to be that good.

While I don’t buy the Kimbrel BS, I do still see the FO signing at least one more bland relief pitcher like Warren, Goeddel, Johnson, or Romo. Still holding out hope for Norris tho.

I could maybe see Brad Boxberger coming here. He'd be the flip side of Hildenberger. That'd give us 2 meatballers.

I doubt it would have gone over any better had Duke been traded for a a bag of cash or a PTBNL. He was a LOOGY, those guys have no value.

There are still about a dozen better relievers than Holland out there. They just don’t have as big of a name.

While I'd like another reliable arm in the pen, I'm not sure Holland qualifies as reliable anymore.

Id rather have someone else. Though I also understand that there are ups and downs in TJ recovery. I feel like Nathan had that in his post Twins career.

They have no value, yet playoff contenders trade for them every year. Something doesn't jive with that statement.

I bet if the Twins are in the playoff hunt in July/August, they'll make a trade for a LOOGY or 2.

Also, a dozen relievers out there right now you're interested in? Still? Names please.

They've got a pretty sweet gig, don't they? They can engage in double speak all offseason, get praised for any trade and signing they make, and no accountability to win 2 full years into their roles.

I just scanned through the deals last deadline.

I don’t see a deal where the Twins could have done better. Other lefties were traded but the return of Costello and De Jong were in line with the other deals.

Holland interests me no more than John Axford, Brad Boxberger, Tyler Clippard, Jake Diekman, Daniel Hudson, Ryan Madson, Bud Norris, Sergio Romo, Tony Sipp, Nick Vincent or Adam Warren. Also, I think Edwin Jackson and Wade Miley are going to look good in a bullpen once they're committed to staying there. Some of those guys have less interest to me than others, but Holland falls toward the bottom of that list as well.

Also, the invaluable Zach Duke is still available. So I guess he needs to be on the list.

Greg Holland would have been a good signing for the Twins. He was bad to start the year since he never had a spring training. You would never expect it to make that much of a difference but it seems to with these people signing late.

Bud Norris has always been someone that would be useful in many roles.

I'd take Madson.
