Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Hello, everyone. Welcome to today's game thread, which may turn out to be a non-game thread because of... 1. The weather. It's not whether snow will fall on Target Field today, it's when and how much. The current game time forecast is 31F with a 7 MPH wind, resulting in a wind chill of 24F. As of the time of this posting it appears that the snow will start later in the afternoon so I think there's a good chance a regulation game can be completed. If not... 2. May 14 becomes a significant date. Based on my review of the teams' schedules it appears that this is the most likely date for a make-up game in the event of a postponement. 3. Our team currently has a W-L record of 4-3. While this is good for a 1-game lead in the AL Central (which, I realize, is damning by faint praise) it's tempting to dismiss this with a "meh". Well, extrapolating this to a full season results in a 93-69 record. No team has failed to qualify for the postseason with 93 wins since the two-wild-card format was installed in 2012. So I would be happy if we can "meh" our way through the rest of the regular season. 4. I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge Minnesota's newest national champion, the UMD Men's Ice Hockey team. UMD, my alma mater, defeated the team from The Ohio State University, my other alma mater, in the semifinal game. Last night a victory over Notre Dame gave them the trophy. Both games were tight 2-1 wins for the Bulldogs. UMD was the lowest-seeded at-large team in the tournament, and their championship speaks in part to the parity of the teams in NCAA Division I. 5. Let's hope we can get a win out of today's situation. Let the game thread begin, and feel free to express yourself! (Always keeping http://twinsdaily.com/topic/8228-twins-daily-comment-policy/ in mind.) Lineups and batting orders to follow when they become available. Anyone should feel free to post them but I will monitor the internets and post them myself if no one beats me to it.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 I think we see good Lynn if they play this.
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 According to baseballpress.com the game has been postponed. The Twins web site states that as well but I did not see a date listed for the make-up game.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 And it has been postponed. Kinda surprising that it has taken this long to see a postponement.

Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 May 14 is confirmed. The Twins web site lists a game vs Seattle at 6:10 PM CDT.

It's actually already listed on the Twins official schedule:https://www.mlb.com/twins/schedule/2018-05 Edit: ninja'd
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 Here ends the game thread for the day. In the name of the pitcher, the run, and the goalie post, amen. (Sorry for the mixed-sports metaphors but it rhymed.)
slash129 Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Anyone else have the Spring Ballpark pass? I'm trying to find out if it will be good on May 14. FAQ and fine print don't seem to address it. I'll check with the ticket office when they are open, but if you find out please post. Thanks!!
Platoon Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 This is a crying shame! Now we will never find out if this was a great GT, or maybe the greatest GT ever? It's how I felt about Tony Olivas and Teddy Bridgewaters knee injuries. Greatness, stolen from their grasp. Removing my tongue from my cheek, it's just as well its cancelled. It would have almost assuredly snowed, and baseball is a crappy game in bad weather.

I don't know, but if it's not, the marketing department should be sent back to marketing kindergarten.
Platoon Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Tried to post the link, but can't, but the way I read it is the Spring Pass will be honored, but only for the 14th.

Has Chief's game thread intro volunteer list been updated? Or are other contingency plans being exercised? This whole 26th player but only for the second game and some weirdness so that a team isn't given undue advantage by the proximity of their minor league team tends to befuddle me. Compared to which game thread intros as are simple... Which is saying something.

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Look like I won't have to switch back and forth between the game and The Masters today. BTW...nice job Nine of Twelve!!
Circus Boy Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Two things... 1. Save this intro and rerun as is on May 14. Then we can see if the 4-3 record thesis holds. 2. Nine of Twelve, what does that name mean? Is it the number of commandments you break daily?
jimmer Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 2. Nine of Twelve, what does that name mean? Is it the number of commandments you break daily?Does that mean you believe in Monty Python's version of the original amount of Commandments?

Nine of Twelve, what does that name mean? Is it the number of commandments you break daily?1. I received a PM from Chief asking if today's intro can be suspended and resumed on May 14. (Permission was granted.) 2. When I came up with the name it was to denote that I had been to 9 of the 12 WS games that have been played in Minnesota. (So far.) But at some point after I became active here I remembered that I sold my tickets for game 1 in 1987 because of another commitment. So it now has become the number of WS games for which I have held a ticket.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Out of curiosity.... What is the weather today?

But you can always ask Brock to change it.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Ha. Haha. Glad you caught it was a smart ass answer to your question
Platoon Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Does that mean you believe in Monty Python's version of the original amount of Commandments? Not sure how many commandments Monty thought there were originally, but frankly I find ten way more than necessary.

jimmer Verified Member Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Not sure how many commandments Monty thought there were originally, but frankly I find ten way more than necessary. in Monty Python, Moses came down with three tablets proclaiming that God had given us 15 commandments..and as he said that, he dropped one of the tablets, then he said Ten,Ten commandments...
