He'll probably sit at least one of those games, probably more if we go on a hot streak and clinch before the last series. But let's say he plays in 12 games. That's probably about 55 plate appearances. And let's say he draws 5 walks. That means he'd have to go about 26 for 50, which is a .520 batting average.

Can we say this kind of B.S.? Those are still games, often against the best competition. I don't think they should count towards regular season records like batting titles etc. but they should count overall. Seems pretty ridiculous not to.

Yeah I have always thought that post season stats not counting for "counting" stats like all time hits, home runs, etc is pretty dumb.

It seems reasonable to me to keep regular season and post-season stats separate. The whole idea is to keep compare as similar sets of data as possible. While that's obviously impossible for a variety of reasons, the post-season variability from player to player is immense.

 

I kind of like the HOF debate of "and then let's look at what he did in the post-season." It's the gravy, not the meat.

Twins fans absolutely believe them. If anything, they might seem low. Although I guess some of those series were pretty brief...

I just have to say Maker's resurgence has not only been amazing, it's been an absolute treat to watch.

 

I've always been a fan and supporter, but really thought he was about done and definitely done after 2018. Now I'm starting to wonder if he doesn't maybe have even a couple more years in him.

After an 0-fer on Friday night, Joe gets a hit that breaks the pitcher's leg. That brings him to 1982, the year that brought us Epcot, the Commodore 64, the CD, the Falklands War, the start of Ripken's Streak, E.T., best picture for Chariots of Fire, and Thriller.

1984 also brought us Joe Mauer's first birthday. In lieu of cake, the event was celebrated with a gallon of 2% chocolate milk, which young Joe noisily slurped from a Twins logo sippy-cup.

 

The day was also notable as the first annual Mauer 3-on-3 baseball classic, in which Joe went 3 for 4 against grandfather Jake's fastball ("No sliders until he's three. I'm not a monster"). He was lifted for a ghost runner in the 8th inning. "Joe's kind of a liability on the basepaths at this point", explained Teresa Mauer, family matriarch and player/manager of Mauer's Mashers. "Plus, he gets really cranky after 5 o'clock".

I was hoping Mauer would get two hits to finish up on 1987, but he only got one, which leaves him at 1986 to end the season. 1986 brought us:

 

The Space Shuttle Challenger explosion, Mike Tyson, Bill Buckner, the Simpsons, glasnost, the "Hand of God" goal, Pixar, the Super Bowl Shuffle (and the Fridge), and Halley's Comet.
