Joe’s nine-game hot streak turns to start the season has him hitting over 400 and up to 1997 career hits. 1997 was the year of:

The Heaven’s Gate cult, Pathfinder on Mars, Deep Blue, The English Patient, the Kyoto Protocol, a cloned sheep named Dolly, Harry Potter, the death of Princess Di, “Candle in the Wind”, the Prius, the Titanic (the movie), Simone Biles, and the creation of Chongqing as a municipality in China (it’s personal, I was living there).

 

I read this as Harry Potter and the Death of Princess Di, and was thinking I do not remember that one at all.

Harry Potter is probably a good reference for Mauer.  In 1997 he would have been prime Harry Potter age.

Joe run so his hit streak to nine (didn’t play in one game, and his career total to 1998. People are starting to notice, as Marney is even talking about it. In 1998, we had Monica Lewinsky, Kosovo, the US Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, the death of Harry Caray, and Google. Let’s go, Joe!
