Dantes929 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 In my 20's I was playing basketball against some guy in his 30's. He didn't look all that athletic. After the game I said to my brother " I can't believe that guy scored on me". My brother told me who he was and I said " I can't believe I scored off him". Greg Thayer.

Four years later, he was again selected with the first overall pick by the California Angels. He played 172 games with the Twins from 1979 to 1981 and hit .242 with 8 home runs for the Twins.

Dantes929 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 This guy never played above A Ball before being promoted to the Twins. Cal Griffith saw him in A ball and said "This guy is doomed to be an all star". Jim Eisenreich. He was a much better player than Gladden and if he didn't have his health issues maybe he would have been the left fielder in the glory days. Of course, maybe he would have been the center fielder and Puckett would have been traded. Who knows?
wavedog Verified Member Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Jim Hughes - Pitcher. I remember as a kid following him in 1975. He got off to a fairly hot start, 6-1 record through May with an excellent ERA and I thought we had a real Ace. Well as it turned out not so much.
