Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Excerpt from MLBTR "probably had the highest volume of calls” on closer Brandon Kintzler “and some of our other relievers,” general manager Thad Levine tells Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM." My interpretation "I'd really like to trade kintzler for more than has thus far been offered" Dman 1
ashbury Verified Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Ok, please ask fred guerrero what the type prospect Yona can be in his eyes. Let's go right now.For reference, that prospect's name is Ynoa. Pronunciation: \ee-know-uh\ from b-ref.com, in case that helps remember. It detracts from credibility to keep misspelling the name of the guy you are touting. 70charger and SF Twins Fan 2
olivia11 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Anyone else think that Santana to the Astros for a package around David Paulino could make a lot of sense? 23-year-old starter with a 92-98 mph fastball and a plus curve. He was a consensus top 100 prospect before testing positive for PEDs earlier this month. BA had him #51, for example. This seems like a good time to buy low on a guy and get someone who's a good bet to replace Santana's production in the rotation right away next season. Maybe something like: RHP David Paulino (org rank #8)3B J.D. Davis (org rank #15 - in AAA, blocked in system. Can play 1B too. Twins need RH bat)RHP Jorge Alcala (org rank #26 - starting pitcher in A+, potential #3 starter, lottery ticket type)

nater79a Verified Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Ynoa's scouting report suggested that if everything went right he would be a back-of-the-rotation starter in 4-5 years. Littell profiles as a #4 and could debut in the majors next year. Plus Littell fits in with the Romero & Gonsalves time frame really well. If Falvey and Levine are really considering 2019-2022 as the big winning window, then I like that they're targeting guys who can be a part of that. I really like this move. White Sox just called. They just put in a claim for 2019-2022 as their winning window in the AL Central. jud6312 1

mudcat14 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Deal Kintzler for the best offer and get Curtiss up to close right now. He's hot and we need to see what he's got. A veteran closer is a luxury we can't afford right now, particularly one who will be a FA in two months.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 I still think Gimenez makes sense for a couple of teams, and allows Garver to come up. diehardtwinsfan, DocBauer, Twins33 and 2 others 5

DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 At this point, I believe you will see a lot of roster shuffling and open auditions over August and September. And not just the obvious names like Garver, Granitem Hildenberger and Busentiz sticking around. You coukd see Vielma, Reed, Curtiss and others. Might even see some of the AA staff get some innings in. Turley in a RP role wouldn't shock me. Pressly in Kintzler's role, if traded, would give me palpitations but not an aneurysm. (As bad as his season has been why not use him the same way in the 9th for a game or two to see how he responds)? The whole point is, the season long trial and error and evaluation period kicks up a notch to gain ML experience, challenge and evaluate a few guys for next season 40 man spots, and so the FO can have a more perspective for off season moves.

As a whole, our shabby pitching staff is worse when he catches & he is once again below the Mendoza Line at the plate. It makes zero sense to leave a 26-year old Mitch Garver languishing in AAA in favor of Gimenez. He needs to get his feet wet now in order to serve as our RH half of a catching platoon for next year and beyond.
butterspud Verified Member Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 My Predictions for our pieces if traded on Monday:Kintzler to the Brewers for Marcos Diplan (We eat all of Kintzlers $$)Santana to the Astros for Franklin Perez and Cionel Perez, (and if we eat $$ Alcala)Escobar to the DBacks for Anthony Banda and Christian WalkerRosario to the Dodgers for Gavin Lux and Jordan SheffieldGrossman to the Rays for Resly LinaresDozier to the Dodgers, Rockies, DBacks, Rays, or Brewers this offseason...unless the Rockies offer Pint and change or the Rays offer Adames or Honeywell (Which they won't) Thoughts??
howeda7 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Others teams, like the Dodgers and now Boston with Price, are using the 10 day DL to give players a break or rest when they're slumping. Why the heck haven't the Twins put Polanco on the 10 day DL as a way to send him on a "rehab assignment" to AAA to help him get things figured out?Should have been done weeks ago. A 10-day DL stint followed by rehab and bring him back after 9/1. It's not hard. hybridbear 1

jimbo92107 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 To me, the players most likely traded will be making room for guys the team wants up from AAA. Trading Kintzler and Gimenez makes room for Curtiss and Garver. We also might see Slegers up after the Garcia trade.

This is probably fairly close to the truth. I know backup catchers seem to get underrated (Butera, Herrmann, Murphy), but Gimenez has already bounced around quite a bit and it generally hasn't been by trade. Claimed on waivers twice, traded for "future considerations" once, purchased once. I could see him being a third catcher for the stretch drive somewhere, but that would likely have to wait until September 1st. Likewise we could wait for a catching injury, but that might take all month too. I'd prefer just to have Garver up now. But I am guessing Gimenez plays out the season here, Garver gets in a few games in September, and then Gimenez (or some equivalent) is brought in on another minor league deal for next spring.
