Game Thread: Twins @ White Sox, 4/9/17@1:10pm CST

[twinssporto]

Welcome to another exciting Twins Daily Game Thread!  I am writing this introduction today from the beautiful Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.  I had an entirely different introduction planned for today until I found out at the last minute my high school senior decided he really wants to join the Corp of Cadets at Virginia Tech the NROTC program and go to college here...This weekend was our only chance to tour and visit before he commits so I thought it best we stop here one more time before he makes the big decision.

What does any of this have to do with baseball you ask?  Well, leave it to me to draw the connection.  On the plane ride out here from Minneapolis I got to thinking about new starts.  I pondered the conversation I wanted to tell my son about starting strong, maintain focus, keep your head down and work hard (all the things I didn't do so well as an 18 year old).

Our beloved Twins are in the same spot. They have a .800 record through the first week.  Exciting stuff!  I know its a small sample size, I know we still have 157 games to play but they are off to a great start and heading in the right direction.  The future could/should be bright for this team.  Their confidence is building and they look driven to succeed!

Some inspirational quotes for the Twins and for all of the high school seniors out there making decisions on what to do after graduation:

"A journey of a thousand steps begins with a single step." - Chinese proverb

"The best way to predict the future is to invent it." - Alan Kay

"Do you know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you." - Thomas Jefferson

"Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life." - Confucius

"Many people can be responsible for your success, but only you are responsible for your failure." - Unknown

"Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional."- Unknown

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." - Hellen Keller

"Our true character is that person we become when no one else is watching."- Unknown

I've actually had to make a few business trips out that way.  As an added bonus, should the Zombie apocalypse ever occur, Altess is where I'll be going to hide. That is the place Rick Grimes whishes he found in TWD.

[Squirrel]

Go Twins and go Hokies! I have an aunt and uncle who live in Blacksburg; my uncle, long retired, was a professor at Tech.

I'll be at the game again today. Will post photos for Van.

[Craig Arko]

Will miss the game today as we're going to watch our nephew Rush sing and dance in West Side Story at the Ordway.

Afternoon? The Twins are on at 11:10 am.

It'll feel like 11:10 AM now that I'm used to pacific time! Getting back to normal life tomorrow is going to be tough!

[Vanimal46]

Right...who waits till afternoon for a nap anyway??

As you know, any time is a good time for a snooze on the couch!

[Halsey Hall]

It'll be a tense time here this afternoon as I have $$$ invested that Fowler tops Speith in the Masters. Hopefully not much stress leading up to it with the Twins game.

Oh, and GO TWINS!!

Thank you!  Wish I could watch the game today.  No coverage out here on the east coast.  Will be too busy building a "Go Fund" me page anyway...College costs are amazing.

Quick Virginia Tech fact:  A Hoakie is actually nothing.  Just a made up name by a student about 90 years ago.  He won $5 for coming up with a new cheer for the team.  He thought Hoakie was unique and funny.

Now you know the rest of the story.

Good day!  (Channeling my inner Paul Harvey)

If inventing the future is an option, may i patent it?

Or at least copyright it?

Oh well. Sounds like effort.

I may miss much of game and threading because i try to do stuff on Sundays, and today is too nice not to...

But if i do, i sure will miss it.

When striking out on one's don't worry overmuch about striking out.

The object of leading off is to get on.

Take the base and run with it.

Right...who waits till afternoon for a nap anyway??

This is a trick question, right?

[Broker]

Va Tech is a great place to go to school and Blacksburg is a great place to live. I grew up there. My dad was a professor.

The center of the campus is an oval shaped drill field. It is 2.2 miles around. When I was a kid all of the male students were cadets. We would watch them march on the drill days.

[ashbury]

Right...who waits till afternoon for a nap anyway??

Infants, when they have kept mom and dad up the entire previous night crying.

[IndianaTwin]

ChiTownTwinsFan and any others at the game, come on over to Section 147, Row 35, to join me in standing to announce that "You can put it on the board" each time the Twins homer.

Rickie would be a good choice for a winner. I'm rooting for ol' Sergio Garcia this afternoon...

I wouldn't bet $ on golf, much less $$$. Good luck!

I have a good feeling about today, and I think Buxton breaks out of his funk today, going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Santana pitches a gem, going 6 and 2/3rds, before the bullpen continues their hot start.

Alternating L & R batters, like it's supposed to be. Makes it more difficult for the opposing manager to use his bullpen.

I feel the same way. And it's OK to say things like this before gametime because I don't think jinxes take effect until the first pitch is thrown.

I am imagining a disappointed handful of ticket holders..."oh, that Rush. Dang."

More likely to happen when the Blue Jays are in town.

That's real Managin' for ya.

Of course, there's also the contrarian philosophy to bunch same sided hitters to make it more likely to string hits together against the starter...
