Molly needs to start bunting more. He's going to leave a lot of runs on the bases this year by letting some of these kids swing away with nobody out.

No excuse to repeatedly leave guys guys in scoring position with no outs by racking up Ks. If the baseball IQ isn't there, don't reward them by letting them swing away.

They can't seem to bunt, though.  And it's on Molly to teach them how in Spring Training.  Sure the kids might not be doing it right, but I view this as a failure of management rather than a player problem.  Bunting can be taught.

It'll feel like 11:10 AM now that I'm used to pacific time! Getting back to normal life tomorrow is going to be tough!

I don't know why, but I'm vaguely disappointed you have what you consider a "normal" life.

Nooooooooo. It's the sixth game of the season and the Twins are 4-1. Bunting leaves runs on the table, not the other way around.

Today is a great day. I finished putting in some plants in some terraces I built and I have country ribs on the grill smoking while I watch the Twins on Direct TV.

Wait, I thought we were aghast at how much Molitor has runners bunted over. Or is this part of the Twins Fan Whiplash Effect? TFWE for short.

Probably right.

I'm a big anti-bunting advocate also, that should be clarified. I don't believe in giving away the out. But, in order for that to be viable over the long run, you need the players to do it.

Take your hacks, by all means. But when you get two strikes, you have to know how to shorten up and out a ball in play. That's priority #1 in that situation.

I guess if the batters knees are 5 feet off the plate the umpire has no clue where the strike zone is.  Awful call on that pitch.  If anything you error on the side of a strike on those pitches to begin with.

Hey guys! Got to this late. Was listening on the radio (MLB.TV) on my way back from the beach....now watching while in my pool.....I love Minnesota, but don't miss early April weather. Enjoying FL. Like how we've started off. Mauer with the clutch RBI. I heard the Buxton at bat, I know he struck out but how'd it look?

See the reply above.

It doesn't leave runs on the table when you can't hit the baseball to begin with.

You're not taking the bat out of Barry Bonds' hands, here. We're talking about kids like Buxton who can't layoff a two strike slider in the dirt to save their mother.

How are you going to drive those runs in whwn the pitcher knows he doesn't have to mess with giving you a hittable pitch, because you'll swing at anything? Then, you're leaving runs on the table.

Disagree. It's only the second inning and only the fifth game of the season. A feature of this lineup is that they have decent threats 1-9. Don't give away outs and the other thing is getting a guy to third with one out is far from a guarantee of getting even one run home.

Completely disagree, you are trying to win today's game.  It has nothing to do with what game of the season this is.  You move runners over to give yourself a chance at a run.  1-21 in the series, you make things happen.  Cool weather, strike out pitcher, strike out prone team, is a recipe for tons of runners left on base.  You take away strikeouts and double play balls.  They gave up a run as the next batter hit a sacrifice fly.  I want the lead every time I can get it.  To suggest you never bunt early in a game is limiting your options.  A good manager changes what he does due to current conditions.

Good omen today:

At our Sunday breakfast place a young couple came in with Twins ... and they weren't wearing white socks!

I think bunting definitely needs to be thought of with men on 1st and 2nd with no outs, even one. Base hit scores 2. Considering Buxton can't get a hit, atleast he can give us a chance for runs with putting a bunt down.

I think everyone agrees that Buxton, if he were a good at it, could be an absolute terror as a bunter. If he were good at it.

In case I wasn't clear, I'm against bunting unless it's an attempt to reach base safely.

Oh, I agree. I was just amused at how we fans can change on a dime when it comes to various aspects of the game of baseball.

I will say this, i think this is the first game I've seen both Buxton at bats start 1-0...an improvement maybe?
