Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 How bout Alex Meyer and Nolasco? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/twins-to-acquire-hector-santiago-ricky-nolasco-alex-meyer-to-angels.htmlPUMPED! That is huge to get rid of him. wsnydes 1
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 4 more minutes to get rid of Plouffe and make my day complete! cjj td, TheLeviathan, Bob Sacamento and 2 others 5
KirbyHawk75 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Twins also get P-Alan Businetz. Not much of a prospect, but he does add depth in the Minors.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 We are talking about the same Ervin Santana here right? The 33yo career average starting pitcher who's due 27M/2YR? Twins fans are talking like this guy is a Cy Young candidate'He is compared to 90% of the guys the Twins have run out there the last 5 years' is probably the underlying thought there. That said, I was hoping the Twins would shop him at least one notch more aggressively than 'have to be blown away by an offer'

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I gotta admit, I had high hopes for Meyer.....but if they packaged him with Nolasco, and got back nothing, I'd be impressed....but to get back a player that actually plays? 3-3. big dog, gunnarthor, Hosken Bombo Disco and 1 other 4
amjgt Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 There are going to be a variety of headlines on this one.... Twins acquire... Twins trade.... Twins swap.... Angels acquire.... Angels swap....
KirbyHawk75 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 We get a decent MLB starter for Nolasco and a former pitching prospect who needs a change of scenery. I am starting to Antony deserves a chance to stay.
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) I like that Santiago's career FIP is almost 1 run higher than his career ERA. To paraphrase Rob Antony, "santiago is a 10-4 guy, but I think he could be a 4-10 guy." Edited August 1, 2016 by notoriousgod71
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Interestingly, Hector Santiago is actually a FIP over-performer.
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I like the trade. I still have hope for Alex Meyer though. Bye Ricky! LaBombo 1
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 All the jays gave away was some rookie ball pitcher, #18 on their list. Doubt that is the same offer they gave for Santana, but pass for sure. gunnarthor 1
KirbyHawk75 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Additions to the organization under Antony:P-Adalberto MejiaP-Pat LightP-Hector Santiago Not bloody bad.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I think if there is money going from the Twins to the Angels, it makes that deal look far less impressive. LaBombo 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I think if there is money going from the Twins to the Angels, it makes that deal look far less impressive. Why? Nolasco was bad here, and Meyer is the disappearing man.....and they got a guy that might start for them while we wait for the AA phenoms to get here......what difference does the money make? TheLeviathan, cjj td, beckmt and 7 others 10
gocgo Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 So, we gave up Meyer to get rid of Nolasco AND we sent money to the Angels to pay for his lousy contract AND we got a guy back who is a FA next year? I don't think this is a good deal for us.

bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Also, Alan Busenitz throws upper 90's, so he's not just a throw in. LaBombo 1
whydidnt Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I'm not so sure 2017 is the Twins option. I know that has been talked about on here, but I've seen absolutely no evidence of it anywhere else. According to Cots contracts he has a $6M option for 2017. It vests if he reaches 485 plate appearances. To me that indicates the Twins have the option of picking it up, unless he reaches 485 PAs, in which case they HAVE to pick it up.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Uh wait a second. I just saw that Alan Busenitz, the throw in guy the Twins got from the Angels is also from Kennesaw State, just like Light. Is that a coincidence? LaBombo 1
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Jeremy speculates the Twins are sending the difference in their remaining 2016 salaries, which would be $2.4 mil. Not a big deal. Weird trade! Some points for creativity. And $4M next year it sounds like.

I don't think this is a good deal for us. Not a free agent next year. Sounds like he has another year of arbitration remaining. Should bring a little more stability to the rotation while waiting on pitching prospects to come up next year.
ALessKosherScott Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 If the tough right field porch can keep a few of Hector's home run shots in the yard, it might work out for us.

Well, I guess we need a lefty in the rotation since I don't see Milone in the rotation next year.
KirbyHawk75 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I am happy to get Nolasco out of here. Now if Nolasco becomes a better than average starter and Meyer reaches his potential, then we know there is something really wrong with the Twins organizations and how they develop pitching and coach pitching.
