Why is Arcia on this roster still?/Arcia dfa'd

I said just this in Spring Training. I can't begin to count how many times in the 8th and 9th innings there has been an "obvious" situation for Arcia to hit in, only to see Suzuki, et al, get another shot. Arcia has only PH 4 times this year.

Arcia is so low on the Twins totem pole that Mauer has been recently been pinch hit for in several late-game situations- against RH pitchers- only to see Escobar or someone else get the PH gig over Arcia.

One of those PH times was vs a lefty as well (one that was already in the game, not a move the other manager made once Arcia was announced as the hitter)

He's only hit for Suzuki once.  Has anyone else hit for Suzuki? I think maybe Polanco did one time.

I'm guessing that Kepler gets sent down when Danny Santana returns.  I'm hoping that means Santana returns to his super-utility role and Arcia gets another chance to prove himself.  I'm no fan of Arcia, but I do believe he should get another shot.

You would hope that management would learn something from the Arcia mess, that they need to play these players more before they run out of options, to find out what they have.

That's the hope with some of the more recent prospects the team drafted. Unfortunately when it comes to Polanco they'll have to go into next year with no options, and if we're lucky, maybe ~150-200 MLB ABs under his belt. He's currently at 52 in the 3 years he's been called up for coffee.

Rotate guys, so they each play at least three times a week?

The question remains, why is Arcia on the roster if they won't play him? that's the question......

Are you expecting the moment they determined to move on from him they would have a trade partner or do you want them to run him through waivers?

I want the team to stop playing with 23 or 24 people. How they resolve that? That's up to them.

They are playing the same game with Polanco....he'll be in this boat, with even less ABs, next year. It happened with Gomez. Tonkin. Not sure who else...

I think you make a very good point here.  They need to give more consideration to development but the situation with Arcia is not a good example IMO.   Sitting Kepler or sending Berrios back after one bad starts are harder to understand for me.

Polanco is a hard one.  Do you sit the guy who has really elevated his game (Nunez) or do you sit your all-star 2B.  Dozier has not been good but he needs the playing time to make adjustments.  On the other hand, playing time for Polanco might be a good motivation for Dozier to learn to take an outside pitch the other way.

The one thing our favorite team can do fairly quickly, is improve the defense. I would move Brooks Sano to full time DH, trade Parks, and Pinto Arcia. There was a lot of interest in Parks during free agency, and he has a team friendly contract. We should be able to get a modest return. Assuming good defense is still valued, you can't have players like Pinto and Arcia on the squad. Fix the defense by the trade deadline, then concentrate on the main event, which is revamping the stating rotation.

I continue to be baffled by the Twins "philosophy" on young players.  Let him go so he can have a career.  I would rather he be another Ortiz for someone else than be ruined by the clueless Twins.

Agreed.  Let him go so that he can have a career with someone else.  It's not fair to Arcia.

This makes so much sense to me.

I am convinced that there is a disconnect between Ryan and Molitor. Arcia is one of several players caught in between them in this problem. Ryan values Arcia and wants Molitor to play him but Molitor makes the line up and keeps him on the bench. We saw this with Meyer and Kepler his first time up, and a few others. One or both of them need to be fired so there can be a plan that the GM and Manager are both working on together. With the Pohlad interviews posted I doubt he's firing Ryan mid season... That would be just too much work.

GAHHHHH!!

I'm getting frustrated and disillusioned again so I am signing off for a bit.

*sigh*

Fire them both!

What I find interesting on this site is that the FO is often cursed for not promoting aggressively in the minds of many who post here. There is constant complaining right now to get guys here soon. Then, when a player fails who is promoted aggressively, the FO is cursed for their failure. They cant be bost to aggressive and to passive. Which is it?

In this case, what is the alternative? Sit Kepler. I seem to recall several people complaining he did not get played the first time he was up. He is a better prospect than Arcia at this point so playing Arcia over Kepler seems ill-advised.

Sit Grossman? He is the hottest hitter on the team. Now, I am all for getting the players of the future ready so we are not in this same situation next year and beyond but I don't think you want to send a message to the team that if you play extremely well you will be benched in favor of trying out a prospect.

The outfield of the future could be Buxton, Kepler, and Rosario/Grossman rounding out a 4 player rotation. That would work out nicely against LH pitching.

the problem is prospects are promoted through A ball slowly then rushed through double A and Triple A so they come to the bigs with zero polish. So yes I complain about Polanco who is in his last option year with 5 MLB abs and 6 MiLB abs. He's got all the potential to be a very good MLB 2nd basemen but is forced into service by poor roster management.

This team punted on defense the second it decided to put Sano in RF.  The team has basically foregone defense since Ryan's return as well.

I hope this team doesn't give up on Arcia, I'd like to see him in the lineup every day the rest of the season.  Sink or swim time.

This team is so stupid.

David Ortiz 2.0

Just so we can keep Danny Santana,a guy who has no business being on any major league roster at this stage, and who's "upside and ceiling" is a util player.

Arcia is a 30+ HR potential guy.

You can't make it up.

Didn't even give him a shot. More or less cut him in favor of Danny Santana, a guy who has no chance of being even an average major league player (he can maybe be a decent Util

Guy...) but this is like cutting a 30 HR guy in order to keep Denny Hocking.

If the twins were in the playoff hunt, maybe you make this move, but on pace for 120 losses you don't cut young players with upside....

Oh boy... this isn't surprising, but I think we all have that feeling that Arcia will rake for whichever team he plays for next.

The writing was on the wall... Molly loves Santana and doesn't like Arcia, so Oswaldo's gone. This'll probably look like a terrible move in 3 years.

Wow. He only had about 100 at bats this year. You'd think a team this bad could of found more playing time for him to see what they had. Now they lose a player with a lot of upside for nothing

Hate this move. Utterly stupid. Negligent waste/misuse of an asset.

I wish Arcia all the best. Hopefully some team will give him consistent playing time and he rediscovers his mojo and goes on to have a good career. Chalk up another count on the indictment of the FO in its talent evaluation and asset management fiasco.
