Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) I think it's a highly unlikely that Gibson is traded or put in the pen. 4 starts is too small of a sample size to do anything to a guy who has improved over the past 2 years.I went out on a branch there, but Gibson has been a big let down so far. I would not be one bit surprised he is traded this season some time. For sure if Duffey, Berrios and Meyer all show good stuff. Edited April 26, 2016 by Halsey Hall

They do need depth, and you can actually send Gibson down if you want. The problem is the guys you can't send up and down....and that they are just good pitchers, not great pitchers.

Did you change your name because you no longer want wins? Jham 1

Did you change your name because you no longer want wins? Ha, no.......I just decided to use my real name on sites like this going forward. Seems more fair to the athletes and FO types, not that they care at all. I also did it as an experiment, to see if it changed how I posted. I think, other than the last week, I've been more mellow. There is a lot of stress at home and work right now, I think that is multiplying the bad play of the Twins, in terms of my posts. I still very much want wins. Danchat Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Good move! Getting Berrios on the roster instead of David Murphy is infinitely better. Hopefully Jose can get off to a good start and make sure he doesn't have to get sent back to AAA. Polcano coming back up is good. I have no idea why they sent him down in the first place. Now the bench is at a fine size. With Santana likely going to the DL, I wonder what the other move will be. It could be Duffey to the DL, O'Rourke to AAA, or outrighting Tonkin. I don't think they're done with Tonkin yet, though. Mike Sixel 1

I am so proud of him.As soon as I saw the news, I thought, "I'm holding Madre Dos accountable for how he fares!" mikelink45 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Such relief in Twin fandom. Lets hope this is not a down performance because I believe he is the top of the line performer we have all been waiting for. Let's hope this summer is a big veteran trade off - rebuild the farm teams and let someone else have our savvy vets. Do the same in the bullpen. Where are the young guys?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I didn't even know E. Santana was hurt. What's wrong with him?Sore back. It's why Duffey came up and started Sunday.
laloesch Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I like the idea of Berrios coming up, but I don't like the idea of Meyer languishing in the bullpen. Put Berrios and Meyer in the rotation and go for it. 100% Agree. Forget payroll, forget seniority and veteran's preference and go for it. Let's see what these two can do good or bad. And for that matter let's see what May can do when given a real shot. Look we know what we've got in Milone. A soft tossing lefty #5 starter. He's not a difference maker and certainly not worth holding back more promising starters for. Same can be said of Nolasco. Guy is history after this season regardless and with his hot start you can rest assured they are dangling him to whomever first comes asking. That frees up two spots. Gibson. I like Kyle, but if he lands a good catcher or 3rd baseman in a multi-player trade i think you have to go for it. We have the starters to move some pieces around and acquire much needed parts. I'm ecstatic that Meyer was called up and now Berrios is on the way. It's about freakin time! twinssouth 1
Darius Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I have to give them some credit for this one. A little late for my liking (a little cheap to milk that extra year with a guy like this), but beggars can't be choosers. I think he's immediately the staff "Ace" (not the most difficult status to achieve in this organization, but again beggars can't be choosers). He's got the make-up and stuff to be very good immediately, and I expect that he will be. He's not the kind of guy that will a return trip to Rochester. Good move, TR. Don Walcott 1

Tibs Verified Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Sounds like Gibson is going on the DL with a shoulder issue. Do they put Meyer in his spot?
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Sounds like Gibson is going on the DL with a shoulder issue. Do they put Meyer in his spot?I would guess that Meyer will get a start after Milone's outing yesterday, regardless of anything else. With Gibson on the DL, they could run out Hughes/Santana/Berrios/Nolasco/Meyer for a couple turns to see what they have and make moves when Gibson is ready to come back. curt1965 1

He doesn't project like an elite ace, but could develop into one eventually. His rise reminds me of Garza. He struggled mightily for a couple years before we traded him. I'm hoping he can flash some of the upside and be a .500 pitcher this year with enough ability to win us a few games on his own.

Actually, Garza struggled for nine starts in his rookie season and then went on to post a solid half-season the following year. Then he was traded.
