Twins not calling up Rodriguez for September? They literally refuse to plan for next year.

Looks like utility man Ben Ross and reliever Garrett Acton will be the Twins’ additions for September roster expansion.

Just bench Larnach. It isn't hard. 

Edit to add.....I get that it is actually hard to bench veterans, but it's over due.

By adding Gonzalez and Ross, it’s like they’re building a bench for a playoff series, but they’re obviously four games back and still have Alex Jackson on the roster so I just can’t stop shaking my head at the overall roster build since the deadline

I’d rank Roden, Rodriguez, Sabato (against lefties), Wallner, Mendez all ahead of Ross and Gonzalez for impact bat for a team struggling to score runs.

Instead we’re stuck with Jackson, Ross, Gonzalez, Caratini as a bench.

Reminder that the independent league’s league average OPS is about .780, so what Gonzalez and Ross are doing is about league average, vs the .715 or so OPS that is league average for MLB

If I'm feeling super, super, super generous I could theorize that they want to maximize his playing time the next three weeks and will call him up on Sept 22 to play a few MLB games after the Saint's season has ended.  

But I'm tired of lying to myself...  Zoll is what we feared he is.

Larnach still has team control so I think that would be pretty silly. As streaky as he is he’s a solid platoon bat easily able to have an .800 ops against righties. Twins have to love on but he has trade value there.

They had the chance to move on twice earlier this year and didn’t take it, doing it now with 20 games left won’t make any difference.

I’d love to be rid of Bell but you can’t do that do either vet. Twins aren’t a preferred FA destination regardless and would be even less so then. However, I absolutely disagree with rostering a DH only guy with a 107 ops+ on the worst defensive team in baseball. Everyone knew they’d be bad defensively and they still did it. 

They could very easily bring up the right guys to finish the season. They could have 3 of Roden, Sabato, Rodriguez, Wallner and ride out the rest of the season with the hot bats playing, but the experts chose Alex Jackson, Gabby Gonzalez and Ben Ross instead. None are currently plus hitters.

Gross. Sorry that’s harsh… At least Ben Ross will get a cup of coffee in the majors.

I wpuld Larnach but not Bell. Just gives Larnach a chance to latch on to a contender, get lottery ticket. Should release before midnight.

Roster decisions based on... other things. Roster decisions not based on talent. 

Roster decisions made today that were set in motion many years ago. 

Erod wasn't going to be the call up.

What is his team control worth? It's worth negative value. His arbitration value will be higher than his free agency value.

Well, we could have and then both "vets" would have gotten the opportunity to join a playoff team. That would have been so horrible, right? To get a chance to sign with a team making a playoff run?

I would have DFA'd Bell first to get out from under his buyout... and not allow the next GM the opportunity to use it.

The Saints season will be over September 20. If Rodriguez isn’t up for the final six games of the season then either the Twins have exceeded expectations or they really, really don’t like Rodriguez.

I think people aren't giving Ross enough of a chance to be a contributor for a few years. 

I'd rather see E-Rod, but I have no problem with a month of sporadic Ben Ross play.

For sure, it's hard to build up the nerve, but tough nerves should be a requirement of a GM and a manager.

This franchise NEVER lets zero MLB experience rookies make the opening day roster. Maybe he'll get a late couple week audition sometime in the next month, but it's looking like E-Rod will never play for the Twins. He was never a sure thing to make it, far from it, and the Twins have lost better prospects for less, but losing a long time top 50 prospect for whatever bag of peanuts they'll get offered is a pretty big indictment on their roster building and equity management. 

I wouldn't fire anyone just because of this, but if we're measuring last straws, this would be more than big enough. Top 50 prospects headline trades for really good players, this was a pretty bad misstep.

Is that actually possible (buyout avoidance)?   If it were possible, why wouldn't every MLB team that didn't intend to exercise the option simply release the player in late September?
