For the second time this month, Byron Buxton is being sidelined by a hip injury. It couldn't come a worse time for the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins placed the All-Star center fielder on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a right hip impingement. Infielder Tristan Gray was called up from Triple-A St. Paul.

Buxton has been bothered for most of the last three months with the hip issue, but he played through it before landing on the IL on July 6 with a strained right hip. He came back July 20 and played in seven games since, hitting just .160 in that span.

Without Buxton, the Twins are down their biggest bat as they make an unexpected push toward a postseason spot. He is slashing .263/.320/.544 with 25 homers and 45 RBIs in 82 games.

Gray is back from Triple-A, where he has been since July 20 as he went down when Buxton came back. Gray has a slash line of .232/.271/.333 with four homers and 29 homers in 63 games with the Twins.

Avg less than 90 games a year at this moment from what I can tell. Your back up CF options better bring their best as his hip will linger for rest of year. Front office says we are buyers, have to sell something to buy, sure wish Jenkins or even Wallner was called up before Gray. Buyers mentality means you don’t reinstate Gray

Called up the saints worst hitter lmao if being on the 40 is today's excuse for refusing to call up a good player fedko and wallner on the 40 and both actually playing well enough to earn the call up . Laughable that gray played terrible since the demotion and he's back in the majors

FFS… Jenkins should have got the spot.

Jenkins would not be called up to sit. The Twins are giving playing time to Alan Roden. Things may change in two weeks.

They are burning up Gray's options because he isn't in the long term plan.  They are conserving the options of the young guys for after the deadline so they can go up and down if needed to work on issues that will appear at the MLB level.  In a week or so, when the trade potentials is over and the roster stabilized, you will see the young stars come up.

Why call back Grey when we have 2-4 others who are much better but haven't had the chance. We need offense and some who can drive in runs. Grey is not the one to do it. Bad management!
