Hip Sends Byron Buxton Back To Twins' Injured List

For the second time this month, Byron Buxton is being sidelined by a hip injury. It couldn't come a worse time for the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins placed the All-Star center fielder on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a right hip impingement. Infielder Tristan Gray was called up from Triple-A St. Paul.

Buxton has been bothered for most of the last three months with the hip issue, but he played through it before landing on the IL on July 6 with a strained right hip. He came back July 20 and played in seven games since, hitting just .160 in that span.

Without Buxton, the Twins are down their biggest bat as they make an unexpected push toward a postseason spot. He is slashing .263/.320/.544 with 25 homers and 45 RBIs in 82 games.

Gray is back from Triple-A, where he has been since July 20 as he went down when Buxton came back. Gray has a slash line of .232/.271/.333 with four homers and 29 homers in 63 games with the Twins.

My biggest concern is that Ryan Kriedler has been playing a decent shortstop, even though his bat has been mostly dead. If the Twins shift Kriedler to CF and use Tristan Gray at SS ..... that is a problem. I have no problem with Gray getting two starts per week, but there are limits.

Avg less than 90 games a year at this moment from what I can tell. Your back up CF options better bring their best as his hip will linger for rest of year. Front office says we are buyers, have to sell something to buy, sure wish Jenkins or even Wallner was called up before Gray. Buyers mentality means you don’t reinstate Gray

Hopefully he stays on the list until he feels as close to 100% as possible. He hasn't been right for a few weeks now. Get him better asap.

And agreed with others, I'd much rather see Jenkins up now instead of Gray.

Called up the saints worst hitter lmao if being on the 40 is today's excuse for refusing to call up a good player fedko and wallner on the 40 and both actually playing well enough to earn the call up . Laughable that gray played terrible since the demotion and he's back in the majors
