Scott Diamond to AAA?

I think it's time for Scott Diamond to get his deserved demotion to Rochester. He has just looked lost and maybe this could be a good time for a wake up call and demote him.

Andrew Albers seems like a prime candidate to replace Diamond.

If he does, I just sure hope he won't flounder like Vance Worley. Ugh.

He'll likely get two more starts. Hopefully Drew Butera gets DFA'd for Albers.

It was mentioned that Wilkin Ramirez is a candidate for the 60 day disabled list. That would allow you to place Albers on the 40 man roster and call him up. His place in the rotation would fit perfectly as he also pitched today and it is time to see what he has got. I think Diamond can find himself again. But he needs to do it in AAA.

During the broadcast, TK suggested strongly that changes were coming. Then he kind of backtracked, saying that it was his opinion, and so on.

I think they should wait on any internal additions to the 40 man until after the trade deadline. They may need to make room if they get multiple players in return.

If they absolutely want to send down Diamond, they can stretch out Swarzak for a start or two and bring up Tonkin.

i was thinking the same, but does it matter? Today reminded us that Mauer is the only legit MLB hitter even on the roster. Would it matter if they lost some of these guys?

They can bring up Hendriks. Diamond should've been shuffled off before the All-Star break and given three starts to see if he can still start. Otherwise, groom him as a lefty set-up guy.

The Twins could also promote Hernandez.

Don't picture any immediate 40-man movement. You want to keep any trading chips (inclouding throwins) in stick right now.

Was surprised that Houston basically cut loose Pena and some other guy. Guess even at .208 with some power, Pena wasn't even a C-prospect tradechip.

Oh, well.

I just feel bad that Nick Blackburn will be coming back at some point and a 40-man spot and some starts (to increase his own personal value) will be made.

I am agnostic as to the details, but agree that Diamond needs a break from starting.

I would also like to see Albers come up soon.

Ramirez has been on the DL since 5/26, so it has almost been 60 days already. Unless there is a special case because he is on the 7-day concussion DL, placing him on the 60-day will be painless. When he is ready to play, he can be DFAed and almost certainly not lost, since Clete has become the backup outfielder.

Oh, well.

Who wants a old batter with no position on the field and can only bat .209? So many strikeouts hurts a batting order. Plus who wants to pay $2.9M for him?

Ronny Cedeno was the other guy. He's a good infielder defensively but batted .220. (Jamey Carrol anyone? The Astros couldn't get anything for Cedeno...)

Back on topic, I want to see Hendriks again. I could go without seeing Hernandez until September. Plus Pedro is rehabbing with Worley right now.

What better time to experiment with multiple new arms than a year like this? Send down Diamond, bring up somebody. Keep that merry go round moving until somebody wins the job.

Agreed. He has mentioned it after his last several starts, so it's definitely in his head. He needs to get his location back in AAA and come back ready to perform. It has to be difficult for management to deal with the inconsistent play from one year to the next, especially of the pitchers. Baker, Liriano, and Blackburn come to mind, but there are many more.

I don't dispute anthing you said except about having no position. IIRC, Pena was always considered a premium glove at first base, even though he has always had a low batting average.

They need move Scott Diamond to the bullpen, like, yesterday. You don't need any better example of how this could work than Glen Perkins. Perkins basically WAS Scott Diamond as a starter. His K/9 rates were 4.4 and 4.2 in the years he started. Yes, he got more velocity later, but there's no way he can pump 95 mph for 5 innings or longer, so there might be a chicken-and-the-egg thing going on with his success as a reliever.

Diamond's stuff almost certainly isn't as dynamic as Perkins, but his problem seems to be the 2nd or 3rd time through a lineup. Reinventing him as a lefty specialist or one-inning reliever might be the best thing for the Twins, and for Diamond's career. He has no prolonged track record of success as a starter, and he doesn't miss enough bats to be effective long-term.

Kiss goodbye, hope he can come back in Sept and give them something worthwhile.

Please no more Hendriks.

See, I really disagree with this. Hendriks has been down (done well), brought up (no good), sent down (ok), and brought up (bad). I would give him the remainder of the year to see if he has improved through the process. Then we at least know if he should even be a consideration for a #5 SP spot come 2014.

It is past time for this team to start getting some answers for next year. Hendriks, Gibson, Cobello, Parmalee, Arcia, Tonkin, and Hicks all need to be getting playing time so we can see if they have progressed this year and if they can make adjustments for the remainder of the year to get even better. Right now, all we know is that Parm is nothing special as a part time hitter and Hicks/Arcia/Gibson are young. Everything else is a mystery which I expect Ryan to spin into some sort of offseason excuse why we aren't pursing top players.

Albers earned the next callup. Hendriks has not shown much this season. Parmelee is hitting .200 in AAA. Colabello should stay in major league for the rest of the season. Arcia should be called up in Sept if not earlier. Tonkin or Ibarra should take Duensing's bullpen spot.

Albers earned the next callup though.

So bring him up when Gibson hits his innings limit or when one of the other starters gets hurt. My point is that you have already seen Hendriks in the majors, now it is time to give him possibly a last look before making a final determination. In order to do this, he needs as many innings as you can give him. Albers is starting fresh. No matter what he does at the major league level, it will still be considered a short stint and he will most likely head into 2014 as the 6th SP who will begin at AAA.

I just hate when outsiders like him blurt out baseless speculation. :)

Albers pitched yesterday as well, so he'd be able to slot right into Diamond's spot without shaking up the rotation order.
