Guest Guests Posted May 31, 2025 Posted May 31, 2025 I seldom do this, but Royce and his coaches would benefit by first reading this TD article: https://twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/minnesota-twins/whats-behind-twins-slugger-royce-lewiss-struggles-at-the-plate-r18395/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-1517174 If they haven't read it, then yes, send Royce down to St. Paul where hopefully that staff read the article....

My hope is that the hitting coaches have developed a plan for him to work on if he does finally get sent out. Plouffe finally said on last night's broadcast what we have all been seeing, that it doesn't look like Royce's is using his legs as part of his swing. I'm also of the opinion that they need to do something before his attitude breaks. Plouffe also suggested last night that every hitter has their breaking point and I'd rather something get done with Royce before he is broken irreparably. I do think he would be a good candidate for a reset with the expectation given to him that he will be back up to the ML club when he is fully ready and can contribute. My hope is that the FO is not factoring in ticket sales or something like that as part of the reason to not do something with Royce. They also do face a small roster conundrum as if the DFA Bride, he will likely get picked up by another organization and not pass waivers Who is buying tickets to see a liability in the field and at the plate play?

Lest they become upset and run away. There is some truth to that. But both sides need to agree. How is playing him on a bad wheel while struggling at the plate as he has been help the Twins? Unless the Twins really believe that whoever they call up will be worse than he has.

Mainly it says that having a faster runner is better than having a slower runner and that Bader in left and Castro at third is a better defensive alignment for the last half-inning than Castro in left and Lewis at third. They probably would have made the same substitution if Lewis was hitting .400. DJL44 1
T.O. Verified Member Posted May 31, 2025 Posted May 31, 2025 Martin and Lewis should be together again, in St. Paul. I'm not sure Lewis has the temperament to work through his problems but the Twins will be a better team without him until he gets in together. TopGunn#22, Parfigliano and Doctor Wu 3

Not only did Jeffers run a long way Royce wasnt even in the TV picture when Jeffers caught it. He was in the picture and had veered off, probably because Jeffers called it. Also, the angle is a bit deceptive. The back edge of the coaching box is in line with the base, and Jeffers didn't reach the from edge. (The box is 20 feet wide.) I would like to see Royce spend a bit of time in AAA, but not because of this play. DJL44 1

The catcher ran considerably farther than the third baseman. Royce is playing the game in a limited way.

I know Gasper did not do much within the SSS we saw him at the big league level but damn, the man has been putting up phenomenal numbers. Gasper getting another shot would be another benefit of sending Lewis down.

DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 I don't know because I don't know what the coaches are seeing on the cages, or what they're looking for in his AB. But a couple days ago I believe he went 0-4 but every out was over 95mph exit velocity and I believe two of them were over 100. Zero results, but if he keeps hitting the ball that hard good results should come. Hopefully soon. Now, if he's not feeling well physically, I could see a 7 day rest with Buxton and Wallner back.

It was a left handed hitter up and Correa was playing up the middle. Foul popups are tough to get to when you play the modified shift. I am not trying to defend Lewis but I am not sure this is an instance where he was given the best chance to succeed. It is interesting he looked like he was moving better and was coming around on the last road trip but then on the homestand he started looking lost again. I still wonder if the team is telling him not to go all out or is it him. Remember last year in his first rehab game, he stole second and the team was not happy about it. It does not feel like it is in his nature to not go all out. So either let him play or put him back on the IL if he is not healthy. MLB play is at a level that no one will be successful playing at less than max effort. Any retired player will tell you exactly that. Current ones are too scared of being labeled trouble maker to tell the truth! 90% effort to save your "health points" not only leaves you with almost no production, but in the end a beat up player hated by his teams fan base because he dogs it. It ain't a video game -,it is elite athletes going all out in a dog eat dog world. Play at less than max effort and some kid will be along shortly to take your job. And on a competently run team it will be very soon!

Everyone is blaming Lewis and there are many reasons to do that, but we don't know what is going behind the scenes. This team is very conservative in treating injuries and I wonder what they are telling Lewis.
Doctor Wu Verified Member Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 I'm just an ordinary Twins fans with no special powers of analysis or helpful suggestions. But clearly, Royce Lewis is struggling and needs a break, or rehab, or a reset, or something, and it should be done ASAP. As many others have already said, he is not doing much of anything to help the Twins lately. He is a player that has shown that he CAN be special and very productive, but we aren't seeing signs of those skills this season.
